Looking for movies to play on your Apple TV? Try 4Flix.net
So you've got a new Apple TV, but now you can't afford to buy all the iTunes content you want to play on it? Until that XviD hack comes through, 4Flix.net has opportunistically announced that all of their content is already Apple TV compatible. In fact, their H.264 encoded DRM-free video can be played on your Mac, iPod, or Apple TV. Now, of course, this video content does not include the latest Hollywood movies, but mostly older, often B&W movies. Nonetheless, there are some real classics, like several Hitchcock movies. Unfortunately, I cannot find any information on the actual resolution of the video.4Flix.net normally offers movies for $1.99 each or you can get a FREE*PASS subscription that allows unlimited access for $9.99 a month or $49 per year. Right now, though, they are running a special with full access to their library for no charge until the end of the month.

Pages do not load or do not load properly and many links are broken. Also unable to contact webmaster or company. Has anybody ever used this service?

"A 1 month subscription to 4Flix.Net’s FREE*PASS is available for just $9.99"
Am I mising something here?! If it's "FREE" why do I have to pay $9.99 ?!?!?!?!

Unable to find any way to download the movies after stepping through the purchase process (Free until end of March) by choosing PayPall. Very skeptical of this site. If someone has had success "downloading" a movie, please explain the process as I am perplexed at the moment...

The Prelinger archive is the place for public domain movies, audio and print. Most of these movies are already there and everything is always free.

Yeah, something weird is going on there. I can get to a page that has download links, but they don't do anything. If they are legit, this is a bad way to launch their site.

Definitely a bogus site, if they charge for those films then they are charging for content that is already in the public domain and free. They've taken the library of films from http://www.archive.org/details/movies and apparently intend to slap a price tag on them.
That might be OK if they actually do something to make the films work on the AppleTV - can anyone confirm if the archive.org files play or not on the AppleTV without modification?

The films in the Prelinger archive (archive.org) are not all in the same format but most are in multiple formats including mp4. I download these directly to iTunes for use on my iPod so they certainly will work on iTV.
It is a pretty simple process to re-encode the few videos that aren't already mp4. Since I got my video iPod, I go to Prelinger at least twice a week for videos and audio recordings.
