Microsoft adds iPod fixes to Vista
Among several Vista patches released yesterday, Microsoft included one meant to allow iPods to disconnect without getting corrupted, CNet reports. Apple has previously addressed several iTunes/Vista compatibility issues. So do these new patches do the trick? Is it safe to eject your iPod without iTunes? TUAW suggests you err on the side of caution. As there may continue to be problems with Vista's "Safely Remove Hardware" option, Apple suggests you only use the iTunes eject function to remove your iPod.

I've been using Vista since "Beta 2" and have had no problems with my Ipod or any USB devices. Vista Beta 2 did make some of my files vanish after moving them to new drive or folders but I've had no problems with my 4G Ipod or Itunes.

When I was on XP with my iPod, I always used iTunes to eject and completely ignored the "Finding New Hardware" garbage. But then, I don't have a dock and if I'm not updating (which requires iTunes), I only charge using a wall socket.

How to safely eject iPod:
1) Grasp iPod and cable firmly.
2) Open window and drop Windoze box, preferably from several stories up.
