Garmin finally releases POI loader and WebUpdater
We've posted before about GPS maker Garmin's rather tortured relationship to its Mac customers, only delivering Mac compatible software a long time after promised (Training Center) or not at all (MapSource). However, it looks like things are getting better. After finally delivering Training Center back in January, Garmin has now graced us with two new Mac betas. The POI Loader "allows you to load custom points of interest into your unit" from your Mac. And the WebUpdater for Mac lets you update the firmware in your Garmin GPS device. Now if they'd finally get MapSource on the Mac, we might consider cutting them some slack. Thanks, Mike!

In my last comment "earlier today" was the day that the article was posted... I don't like the comment verification cause I rarely check that e-mail address, and am too lazy to use my password.

The main firmware updated just fine and showed the revision history and so forth. Then after that process completed, another update was available, which just said, "GPS Software" with no notes or dates or versions or anything. Well, okay, I still tried it. It got maybe 2/3 of the way, then said, "Failed." All of the satellites on the initial 'acquiring' screen were gone and the bottom of that screen (where the satellite numbers and bars were) was just horizontal lines going across. Urgh. Tried again and this time the updater 'closed unexpectedly.' Power cycled the device and re-launched the updater and tried a third time, and that appears to have succeeded. So, now I need to go out for a bike ride. To, er, test whether it worked. ;)

I got the CX instead of simply replacing my Vista for several reasons, USB connectivity being one of them. Hopefully, the future is great.
I'm gonna download it a few times from several different IPs in case theyr'e looking at download history to calcualte interest.
Add another vote for the MapSource for Mac!
I've had to load my Garmin device up using a Windows machine at work. But at least we have GPSBabel+ to allow importing and exporting of waypoints, tracks, and other data.
