Midnight Inbox 1.1 available
We know what you're thinking, "All right, TUAW! Enough with the GTD posts already!" Hey, it's currently the "It" cottage industry, and some folks are writing some nice software.Midnight Inbox is an application meant to enable users to follow the GTD methodology easily on their Macs. All of the "steps" of the process are represented by a very nice UI. The app's main window is a bit large, but can be minimized if you don't mind a good deal of scrolling.
This week version 1.1 was released. Changes include:
- SQL format data storage
- iCal synchronization for external devices
- Documentation in OS X's help menu
- A new archive feature

Pretty, but still EXTREMELY buggy and crash prone. I badly want to use this application, but it's just not there yet.

Pretty UI, but not as simple to use as GA.... Please keep posting these GTD apps! Don't be ashamed!

@5: Uh, yeah there is. I’m a big fan of Aqua—but it can get to a point where it just becomes OTT and distasteful, I think that’s what has happened to a certain extent here.

This is the fourth time that TUAW blogs about Midnight Inbox. Each time the comments generally agree that this is one unstable app that's pre-release quality. Does TUAW run the apps it features? I know this isn't a review or a recommendation, but there's a certain imprimatur of at least stability that comes from being so prominently featured. I've been following this app for quite some time, and I really want to like it, but each I try a new version, it's still incredibly unusable. Basic tasks crash the app. I wouldn't generally be bothered by this except that it's now advertised as 1.1 and sold for $35. That takes chutzpah. Am I wrong or is this the app Merlin Mann was referring to without naming names on the current episode of MacBreak Weekly? Here's hoping OmniFocus doesn't disappoint.

Still way too slow. I don't like the fact that kGTD is essentially a huge macro, but I guess I'll have to stick with it until OmniFocus comes out because everything else is missing one feature or another that kGTD covers.

Midnight Inbox is a bug-infested and basically unusable pre-alpha app. The (sole and amateur) developper lives in a state of denial as to the real quality of his software. Some of his comments in the discussion group as well as in his blog are - unvoluntarily - comical to pathetic.
Pretending that this is a Version 1.1 (within a few days up to 1.1.5 to eliminate a few fatal bugs) and that it is worth 35$ is only proof of irrational exhuberance.
What is absolutely astonishing is the attention this software gets; and how apparently nobody writing about it ever tries to seriously use it.
There is a lesson to be learned here. Can it be that the "artistic" and typographically sophisticated UI alone is sufficient to generate this kind of attention, without the software ever having to work?
