Sticky WIndows 2.0: universal and more

We last mentioned Sticky Windows over a year ago, and now finally the window clutter tab utility has finally been updated to version 2.0 as a universal binary. Sticky Windows allows you to create a tab from any window. You just drag the window to the edge of the screen and it shrinks down into the tab. You can then click on the tab to get the window back. Also new in version 2.0 are tab types: manual vs. automatic (all tabbed windows other than the foremost one automatically shrink) as well as drag and drop to the tabs (though this doesn't work with every application). The Sticky Windows site has an extremely slick flash movie that demonstrates what it does (notice the clock in the menu bar of the movie). I have to say, though, that I'm not that big a fan of the pink scaling visual effect that you see each time a tab shrinks or expands.

Sticky Windows is $20 and a demo is available from Donelleschi Software.

After using this program a little bit more I have to say that I do not like my windows turning to tabs just under the menu bar. Sometimes I like my windows to be right up against the menu bar and Sticky Windows turns them into tabs. Don't like this.

This is something I really missed from the old Systems 8 and 9. I'm glad it's universal now! I was one of the first 100 users to get it for $5 off this morning :D

I like the concept of the app ... but I absolutely hate the pink and the overall feel is not very Mac-ish. Being a professional designer I don't think I could live with the pink on an every day basis.

If my memory is correct this was a feature of system 8 back in 1994. I can't remember if this feature was retained by Apple on system 9. Minimizing to the dock replaced this function when system 10 came out in 2000. I liked it in 1994 but I didn't use it very much because I usually only work on one thing at a time.

I really like what this app does. The coder is very talented. But, like the others on this forum I think it's excessively overpriced and wish you could change the the "hot pink" color.

Ugh, that pink is totally ugly. Uninstalled it right away.

On paper this sounds like it doesn't do much that minimising windows doesn't already do. In practice it's potentially a great app, especially for those of us using 12" or 14" laptops. BUT...a) it's overpriced at $20; b) the windows corrupt after a while; c) some windows disappear as soon as you open them. Maybe start asking for money when it's no longer obviously a Beta?

Interesting little app. However, if the pink minimizing was customizable to a different colour to better suit our individual themes this would change me from 'not purchasing' to a 'maybe' because as one poster mentioned above, F9 works pretty damn well.

So, why paying 20 bucks for this is a thing i don't know, since you can hide your apps and access it directly from the dock...

Or just press F9, you should start a new category 'useless app of the week'
