Sling Media working on compatibility with Apple TV
Dave Zatz, an employee at Sling Media, is confirming reports that they're busily bringing compatibility with the Apple TV to their cool Slingbox placeshifting device. The Slingbox connects to your home AV sources (cablebox, Tivo, DVD player, etc.) and your router, and allows you (via the SlingPlayer client) to watch that video stream anywhere in the world over the internet. It even includes an IR blaster that lets you control your source as if you were in your living room with your standard remote (which appears on your screen, like the Apple Remote to the right). Now the Slingbox Pro will apparently connect to your Apple TV (via the component outputs) giving you access across the internets, not only to your video, but to your entire iTunes library (via audio only mode) on your Mac, PC, Palm or Windows Mobile device. Nifty![Via Engadget]

Enough already with the Apple TV! Most of the world has little use for it until iTunes starts selling movies and TV shows. I can't believe the preponderance of ATV posts over the past couple of weeks is due to their being nothing else to write about : /

Hey John - has it been a while since you've visited the iTunes store? They do sell TV shows and Movies. And "Most of the world has little use for it"??? Yeah, I guess most of the world has little use for the iPod and iTunes too. You're right.
Duh!

Hey Brent - they don't sell TV shows or movies in my country. Or my girlfriend's home country. Or the country my brother's living in at the moment. Look beyond your borders from time to time, there's a big world out there.

Hey moog - Apple is a US owned company and TUAW is a US run website. By all means, I encourage you to start a website that details Apple's products and services in your country.

Does that mean non-US readers should keep their opinions to themselves Leonard?

The slingbox is really cool. My dad bought one back in December and we set it up at my house here in Dallas, TX. My dad lives in Santiago, Chile and now my parents can watch and record US television. When I get my AppleTV and they make it compatible with the slingbox I am going to have to experiment.
I was noticing the heated debate in these comments. Is the US the only iTunes store to sell TV and Movies?

Jonathan, I'm not sure if the US is the only store that sells them, but I know there are plenty that don't, contrary to what Brent Kaul so arrogantly claimed.
However, Apple is a US owned company and TUAW is a US run website, so I'm still waiting for confirmation from Leonard Nimrod if its OK for me to comment, as I'm not a US citizen. If it turns out that I'm not, then please disregard my first paragraph, I'd hate to be commenting on a web page that I had no right to read in the first place.

Bungle,
While Mr. Nimrod's point is true that Apple and TUAW are US based, clearly neither are intended solely for a US audience. So please comment away!
I just keep in mind that not all posts will be relevant to everyone. For example, news that a new store opened in London, or New York is not relevant to me, whereas info on the latest update to some software might be.

Of course we know, and are glad, that we have readers from around the world. We try to cover what's hot, and the Apple TV is hot right now. As Jonathan said, not all posts will be relevant or interesting to all readers, but we try to strike a balance. As it is, all of the TUAW bloggers are US based, so we naturally tend to cover what's happening here. Let me say though, comments from around the world are always welcome and are always read.
