More Leopard delay reaction

- John Gruber responds that iPhone and Leopard are the same effort, since both run a flavor of OS X
- Brent Simmons thinks our readers are borderline hysterical
- Crazy Apple Rumors thinks Scott McNulty is all-the-way hysterical
- Wall Street weighs in: no long-term impact seen
- Jeremy Horwitz wants a coupon for 10.5
- Dan Frakes urges everyone to just settle down
- Fake Steve wants you to look deep into his eyes and count backwards

Well, I think the Tech section headline writer at cnn.com is spot on:
Apple Delays Jaguar Release.
Yes, it did say Jaguar.

A coupon would have been great, when I bought this MacBook a couple of weeks ago. I held off as long as I could... and don't sales this quarter reflect that a lot of other people are holding off? We weren't necessarily waiting on newer tech (ok, I was hoping for a MacBook Mini with 64GB flash drive, or at least Socket P). Having to pay $100 in 6 months to upgrade my OS is kinda lame, though.

Steve Job is smarter as Bill Gates tried to recall his Microsoft Window Vista and Bill is waiting for stealing's Steve's new Apple MAC OS X Leonard in the early. I am glad that the Apple INC is postponing till October 2007. So Bill Gates can't steal Steve's innovation again. Too Bad for Bill Gate! Miscrosoft is the devil. Hail to Apple!

Wow. Where did all the fanboys go? They had plenty to say when Microsoft delayed Vista.

Yea but Vista was delayed several years ^^.
C'Mon guys'n girls, this is just few month I could even hold my breath from Keynote to release date…
And as long as none of the new features is a serial code, you guys friend-copy it anyway… (although it's not nice ^^)
Have a nice day, Jp

I remember some people moaning a year or so ago when they announced Leopard wouldn't be too far away, that we were being fleeced too frequently. That, in effect, the release schedule was too close together. Admittedly, I've now had my 80 notes-worth of this one, but October (was it?) does at least give me some time to get a few coins in a jar (or hope the wife doesn't notice a chunk of cash going missing, what with all the upheaval of our house move and all).

Between now and October, the Xbox 360 will get a bunch of new games I want. This OS X delay will give me some extra bank to buy all of them. As long as Apple starts acting like they want my money --something they've utterly failed at doing thus far this year-- and has something new when I plan to buy a completely new system in Jan, I'll stay with them. I'm nobody's fanboy, I can switch OS's at the drop of a hat. In fact, I'm starting to miss building my own...

What surprised me was that so many people OUTSIDE the development community are actually waiting for Leopard so eagerly.
A lot of the new features in Leopard are really developer focussed: memory Garbage Collection in Objective-C 2.0, CoreAnimation APIs, 64-bit AppKit, etc.
Even the "surface" features such as Time Machine and Spaces virtual desktops are really power user stroke developer features.
Has Apple REALLY done such a good job persuading people they NEED Leopard, or is it more a "it's new, it's shiny, and I want it!" type thing?
Or (more illogically in my opinion) it is more a case of, "I don't know what's in Leopard, but I won't buy a new Mac until it's installed."

Reg: I am essentially taking the position you criticize, "I don't know what's in Leopard, but I won't buy a new Mac until it's installed," for several reasons:
- Waiting until Leopard will probably mean new iLife preinstalled as well.
- Apple is overdue for hardware updates too. Whatever they have when Leopard comes will be better than what's available now, probably across the board.
- Those developer-focused features are just as significant to end-users; we will ultimately benefit from anything that allows developers to code with less bugs, more quickly, and with more features. Software that takes advantage of this won't work on Tiger.
- Those features that we don't know about yet will probably be more significant than what's been announced.
- My current PowerBook will serve me well enough until then.

I read post #11 and now my eyes are bleeding.
Why the picture of a tabby cat for go with the article? Are you implying that Leopard will be somewhat tame? ;)

Kalessin: I was aiming for a picture of 'yowling' about a big cat...

Mike: Pffft. Too abstract for me. That's why you're the writer and I'm the reader :)
