If you're planning a trip and are looking for some inexpensive spoken books, iTunes put up a special
25 books for under $5 page that you might want to check out. These audio books include material ranging from Steven King and Jerry Seinfeld to Elie Wiesel and Ann Coulter. Be aware that most of these selections are abridged or based around short material, so there's generally a good reason they don't cost as much as most full-length audio books. The cheapest item, Harry G. Frankfurt's "On Bulls**t" (Apple adds even more asterisks than I) costs just $2.95 for an hour's frank discussion.

For something more exciting than some dude reading a book, check this out. They have a DC Comics audio production coming out very soon.

I think the gap between Elie Wiesel and Ann Coulter is a big one.

Ann Coulter's reviews are either 5 star or 1 star. The 1 star reviews are filled with hate. Unfortunately for them the book is #2 in sales in its category.

Thanks for the tip! I just picked up Lawnmower Man and Night. Much cheaper than the Audible member price (by about half).

"The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time" is UNABRIDGED and 6 hours long. I've listened to this book, and really enjoyed it. I didn't want it to end. I highly recommend it, and it's a steal at $4.95! I wish I'd paid so little for it.

...And isn't it only appropriate that reviews of Coultergeist's book would be filled with hate? So is she.

Um, is it just me or is it kinda dumb for iTunes to censor the name of the book when the cover art has the full name anyway?

could someone explain me this asterisks thing, especially for this title (link above). (ok no audiobook, just music). I'm not a native english speaker (as you can see), this may be why I don't understand this :-)

Curiously, this link works in the UK iTunes store - the heading is "25 Audiobooks under $5", but the books don't match up with the ones being discussed above and prices range from £4.95 (~$9.85) to £11.95 (~$23.77)

Or, instead of paying any $, you could get yourself a library card and download thousands of free audio books. Houston has such a program and I'm sure many major metro libraries have something similar.

The online audiobooks provided by my local library aren't iPod compatible, so I'd have to get & rip the CD version and organize the files.
That said, I haven't listened to any audiobooks since the last hurricane left me sitting in the dark for a couple of weeks. For regular books, I love my library card.
