Making the switch: App for app
Now that new Macs will run Windows beautifully, people are considering Macs who haven't before (I've seen it myself around the office). They may install Windows, but I'm sure that once they play around in the Mac OS for a while, they won't all go back. Being Mac newbies, however, these users may not be aware of the Mac counterparts for some of their favorite Windows apps. The good folks at Blather have compiled a nice list of popular Windows apps, and their Mac counterparts:
- Outlook >Mail and iCal
- HomeSite > TextMate
- AppRocket > Quicksilver
- FlashFXP > Transmit
- SecureCRT > Terminal
- SQL Manager > Navicat
- Tortoise SVN > SVNX
- OneNote > OmniOutliner
- FastTrack Schedule 9 > OmniPlan
- Visio > OmniGraffle
- Internet Explorer 7 > Parallels
- PHP Encoder > SourceGuardian

Yes, but that keeps it as part of the overall playlist. With iTunes your entire library. In WMP11, when you select Album view, you can a) scroll by album, and you can just select the album. So if I say I want to listen to an album, and put it on shuffle, in iTunes i'd have to make a playlist, instead of just selecting the album and pressing play.
And Preview is decent replacement, but Windows Picture Viewer let's you directly access a slide-show, and you can just click left or right and scroll through all the pictures in that directory. As for a replacement to IE7, oddly i'm surprised i'm the only one who just uses Safari. I've found myself perfering Safari to FireFox.
I would like to switch to a MAC, and I tried at the MAC store in the mall. The one thing I need a PC for work for is to login and do my daily work on Farmers Insurance's website. Firefox and Safari dont work, I spent an hour with a tech and he showed me how to run IE not windows, just IE and it worked, but it seemed like a bit much of trouble. :(

April 17 2007 at 3:26 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySo FastTrack Schedule is a cross-platform application, and has run natively on the Mac for a good long time. There's also Merlin for project management, and MindManager for idea management/organization a la OmniOutliner.

April 16 2007 at 10:54 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyFlashFXP isn't really equal to transmit because transmit (still) doesn't do true FXP. It will only download a temporary copy to your mac first, then it will upload to the other server.
Whereas FlashFXP will actually go server-to-server without downloading the files to your pc.
I am still trying to find one for Access (and don't say filemaker!)

Use quick mask and and an airbrush. in photoshop. I almost always do all that manually. ALternatively you can select what you want save the selection and then feather and copy to your hearts content. i personally dont like preview windows as you can never tell accurately wats going on over the whole image as the windows are far too small.
