First there was HandBrake, then MediaFork... and now, well, just don't call it a comeback: HandBrake 0.8.5b1 is out, incorporating all the library updates from the MediaFork build of the free, open source DVD converter/compressor and adding some new goodies:• User presets
• AppleTV and PS3 support
• Anamorphic video, even in QuickTime
• Surround sound (both AAC 5.1 and Dolby Pro Logic II)
• Chapter markers (QuickTime-style)
• Official support for the Windows GUI
• PPC Linux support
• High profile H.264
What better way to spend a weekend than converting all your DVDs to show on your AppleTV? Just note that this is a beta version, and the last stable rev of HandBrake (0.7.1) may be more reliable.

Ugh, I can think of a million things I'd rather do, like watching paint dry.

In case anyone is interested, the updated (ie. better) icon for handbreak can be downloaded here: http://dl.qj.net/index.php?pg=12&fid=8616&catid=36
Pineapples are nice in the right environment... not in your dock though.

While I agree with #2 comment, I really dislike that orange replacement icon. I have taken the good old MediaFork for this new beta instead. Looks pretty cool for me.

Better is subjective. I like the pineapple. It's got character which is more than I can say for the "better" icon, however nice it looks.

I've used Handbrake since it's original Release on BeOS, and I have absolutely no interest in the Pineapple icon.
This actually release however, is a great improvement. It does everything I want it to do with DVD>MPEG4 conversion except SubPicture>Text Subtitle conversion, and the interface is still a little Clunky.
I *would* pay good money for a SubPic>Text Add-on, and a nicer interface, but I have no complaints about the Handbrake Development team. This release is still fantastic, and The Cross-platform nature of the beast is a real Achievement.
Now I need MPEG-4 Standardizing software (XviD>MPEG-4) that results in High-Quality iPod-compatible Video files. Something like DivX-Doctor, where the XviD AVI is mearly repackaged in a MOV or MP4 container format.
