Linkinus IRC Client

Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is the grand-daddy of all instant messaging protocols. My modest IRC needs have traditionally been satisfied by the nice donationware application Colloquy, but reader Jago writes in to tell us about a new OS X IRC client: Linkinus. The three-column interface appears attractive and is probably worth a look-see for the heavy IRC user.

Linkinus is $19.95 and a demo is available.

Gary, thanks for your kind words and support. We're working hard to make this the best IRC app it can possibly be!

I've tried this client out and it's simply awesome. It's so nice, I paid the $19.95 and registered. For a GUI IRC client, it's smooth and uses little resources. It's very Mac-ish in its appearance and full featured. I still use console apps here and there (like a few mentioned above) when I'm in a console session, but when I'm on my MBP I'm going to use Linkinus. A few of my buddies online have tried it and agree.

To the developers, you guys have done a GREAT job and I can't wait to see future versions.

I really like Snak for my IRC needs, been using it for quite some time (since pre-OSX days), and the author has implemented lots of neat stuff. It's a real joy to use and is really "mac-like."

IRSSI+Screen FTW definitely, however, if it comes with OS X, that's the first I've ever heard of it ;)

meh, i'll stick with xchat aqua. it's free, has tabs, and a nice clean interface. It also has plugins (both ones that come with it, and you can add custom ones). The only thing I don't like is you can't change your name without editing the master prefs.

Definitely IRSSI. I think it's built into OSX actually, and it's nice to be able to fire it up inside a terminal screen so you can seamlessly move around to other machines and SSH into your mac to IRC with a persistent log, if you keep your mac running 24/7 like I do.

If you didn't understand anything I said, then Colloquy is probably better. :-)
