After updating to Security Update 2007-004 on my G4 (OSX 103.9), I saw all my Entourage email data disappear from each identity, till all all the email identities were lost. Turned off the computer. Turned it back on, the desktop had been reconfigured, lost all bookmarks on safari, lost preferences....Have lost a lot of data (since last weekly back up) & a lot of TIME . I have checked and re-checked, the cause of these problems. It can only be the update.
May 06 2007 at 3:41 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyhmm, my pismo has been having one issue: when the backlight dims (only done this with AC, not battery), after about a minute, it freezes. the time stops moving, but i can move the mouse, and when I do the backlight comes right up, but it is still frozen. I can't launch anything, or do anything. I can fix it by closing the lid, but it takes about a minute for the sleep LED to start pulsing. Then, i open it up, it wakes up, and all is well again. I have temporarily turned off backlight dimming on AC power. I don't know if it was the security update, or if I just need to reset the PMU. I recently was forced to reinstall when my hard drive developed some bad sectors on critical system areas. a low level format on OS 9 fixed it for now, but I know i'll need a new HDD soon. currently it has a 40gb Hitachi I got from a friend's HP he was parting out. Not bad for free, but this is the secont travel star (first one was a 20gb IBM) to go bad within months of using it. Maybe it's just me using used HDs. The 6gb apple HD that came with this machine was cramped with OS 9.2.2 and X, and no room for all my files. good thing they are all backed up on my 120gb Seagate in my B&W. maybe i'll get a 120gb 5400RPM seagate. 4200rpm is just not cutting it.
look at me, i'm rambling.
i'll try the PMU reset, see if it fixes anything...
I think I had some problems, but they weren't there after a second reboot.

Pain in the butt.
I have ahad problems - on restart my iBook took forever to boot up and then wouldn't load the Dock. After another restart it loaded my Dock but lost all the settings.
It also managed to loose all my photos and database information in iPhoto which is more than a little annoying as Icannot retrieve any of it.
I have had to abandon my oldl iPhoto setup to get it to even open :(
I could not get the update to work on my 1.5GHz 12" powerbook 10.4.9. Software update would crash in the middle of running the update. I already had been planning to do an Archive Install to fix some kernel panics. After the Archive Install the update ran fine. The powerbook did reboot twice as others have noted.
