Here's another one of the take it or leave it variety. TheMacPak is a special bundle deal a la MacHeist and MacZOT. In this case, the bundle promises 10 (or 11) applications for $30, starting today. But they are only going to reveal them one at a time, with the price going up $5 each time (up to $75). The first application is online now, and involves a choice between two games from Pangea Software: Otto Matic or Pangea Arcade. They are promising "no MacHeist dupes, No MacZot Friday 13th dupes, No MacAppADay dupes, no apps with less than 4/5 on MacUpdate, no widgets" and a total bundle value of $288.86. Note, however, that serials will not begin to be emailed until June 1st and may take up to 14 days more. TheMacPak is available for purchase now.

I bought Macheist because it had a couple apps I intended to buy anyways and the timing was right. But I think this trend of "buy our app/apps now and we'll tell you what it is later" is getting really annoying. Is the state of the Mac app market such that people really need to hide the products they're selling from consumers and hope they'll buy? I hope this fad goes away soon.

MacHeist was a dupe? What? I found it a very valuable purchase.

@Zach: He's not saying that MacHeist was a dupe, only that the TheMacPak doesn't contain duplicates of apps that were in Macheist, MacZot, or MacAppADay.

wow, now I see why there wasn't a lot of hype for this. the website looks pretty bad, not to mention, freakin' shady too.
For one, this is a big step down from Macheist IMHO. Macheist wasn't just profitable, it was also A LOT of fun. I don't think I can emphasize how much fun it was without causing some sort of integer overflow. In any case, Macheist also had a very cool looking website which was a joy to use for every heist.
And as for spending money, PayPal? I don't know about you, but I've never been big on PayPal. It's bad enough we have no clue what the apps are, and don't get me wrong, they could be great, but I'm not one to spend $30 on something I don't know or will not get for a few weeks still (unless it's a subscription to Wired, which is amazing). Macheist emailed me my serials almost instantly considering the volume of requests they had, and also...good cause.
Oh, and, is it really that hard to hire a graphic designer? Really? I call shaaaaady

i'm tired of this gimmicky/shady sales tactic. basically send us some money, and we'll send you back whatever we feel like whenever we feel like it. pfft.

Well rather than guess whether or not it legit - I emailed the only developer disclosed so far ie. Pangea
Brian Greenstone (President & CEO, Pangea Software, Inc. ) and he confirms that Pangea are involved with a succinct "Yep :)"
Given Brian's long history of neat products and the fact that I was going to buy Arcade anyway seem like a viable off - even with the glitches of a premature website release.
cheers

Just a thought - but I'd guess that the delay is for several reason:
• what is the turn around on PayPal to the receiver? and onto the respective developers?
• also to prevent people from knowing the applications ahead of time TheMacPak would have to setup a staggered sending of registrations to each developer to generate the serial numbers...
Maybe these sorts of things could add up to 6 weeks... too bad my Pangea Arcade trial has expired!

That MacZot Friday 13th thing was incredibly poor. I emailed beforehand to ask about the timeframe of the deal (living in the UK and the event taking place from 9pm (UK time) it would seem reasonable to check whether it would be running through the night here. I got an incredibly rude response from MacZot. To make matters worse they obviously took their site down during the deal. I kept refreshing and the moment it hit 9.13 (1.13) the site when down! Frankly disgusting!

These things are so freakin' lame. If the programs were worth what they're charging, they could just tell you what they were and quadruple their sales. I hate these mind games.

What they hey I liked Macheist and I imagine most people did not crack the puzzles themselves but relied on the forums for the answers. I di not like all the software from Macheist but paid up to get the one's I did. People pony up money for Woot! mystery bags of crap why not this?
