Camino 1.0.4 is available

Attention Camino users: Version 1.0.4 of your favorite browser is now available. I go back and forth between Camino and Firefox myself, and I've got to say that Camino is nice and snappy on my MacBook Pro. Changes in 1.0.4 include:
  • Improved ad blocking (Yay!)
  • Several security issues fixed
  • Import iCab 3 bookmarks
  • Camino can create/restore a backup of your bookmarks
Camino requires Mac OS 10.2 or better, is universal and free.

It's a nonstarter for me without Greasemonkey. Seriously, I depend on it now. So it's FF on all platforms for me, still.

Japanese fonts are *still* broken, even though Camino has an official Japanese website. That's why I've given up on it and gone back to Safari (Webkit, actually).

Well even if this is a slightly older than implied release, it still inspired me to give Camino another look. I like what I see, and thanks to 1Passwd I can dodge that annoying password issue mentioned above.

The ad blocking is much better than I remember it, but I can't seem to find a way to add filters as easily as the right-click menu item Adblock Plus adds to FF. Being a long-time FF user that has it installed on several different operating systems I prefer consistence and this is one thing that would hinder me replacing FF on my Mac. I also wish replacing buttons didn't involve either manually doing so in the .app file, or a third-party program (CaminIcon.) It feels too messy and troublesome, considering I ran into some issues with CaminIcon that resulted in manual replacement of the okay, but bland pill buttons.

As Mr.ThunkDifferent said, though, this will be great for my old G3. Giving it all the features I enjoy in Firefox with better performance (it'll be interesting to see how an optimized build does.) After a quick button replacement it also resembles my preferred Pinstripe theme, making it comfortable and familiar.

So reading this has led me to give Camino another whirl... I'm not gonna lie though... I hate the icon

i agree with Jason here, Camino & its password manager is a complete waste of time. It is almost better to select "Never for this site" than to have Camin remember passwords for you. Camino is good, but even though aqua isn't enable for Firefox, i'll still take FF over Camino anyday... accept for my 256 RAM g3 with Camino runs almost twice as fast. I look forward to Mozilla resolving this in the next release.

Go go go mozilla!

@JesseRPI, are you sure that you *upgraded* to 1.0.4 and didn't actually *downgrade* from a 1.1 alpha or beta that you forgot about? Either that, or perhaps you need to update CaminoSession.

As Robbie said, 1.0.4 has been out for some time now. I think Dave Caolo may have misread "March 7" as "May 7."

I just upgraded to 1.0.4 and now Camino does not reload the pages that were left open before being closed. Agh! This was one feature I really liked. How can I restore it?

I dunno, Safari seems faster to me than Camino, and last I looked, there were fewer useful plugins for Camino than for Safari. I've rarely ever had a problem loading a site in Safari, either--certainly not enough to put up with Camino as my default browser. To each their own. And I agree that either browser is far, far better that Windows-ish monstrosity known as Firefox.

I'd like to use Camino but as it does not work as a RSS reader (at least it didn't?), I prefer Safari.

Camino although is a nice browser but it just hasn't that little something.

@ Popo man, Firefox was pretty horrible running under OS X here, with Camino you get a Mac feel (possibly moreso than Safari) with the reliability of Mozilla.
Camino loads all the pages that Safari can't no problem.
And it seems faster, its a great middle way between FF and Safari.
