Found Footage: Gee that commercial seems familiar
You know how some commercials give you a sense of deja vu? All over again, as the great Yogi Berra might add? TUAW reader Matt S. found this Euro 2012 football championship commercial over on Youtube and passed it along to us. It's not exactly Costello-level-Music but it's certainly Flathead-esque, especially with the la la la's at the end. And the animation with its desaturated main figures on an animated background evokes the feel of Apple's recent iPod commercials. One of the YouTube commenters states that the song was performed by the Ukraine's TNMK band.
Thanks Matt S.

note that it predates the ipod commercial by over a decade.

Anybody consider that the same ad agency that created that iPod commercial might have also made this one? Or does Apple have an in-house advertising group?

They didn't even *try* to make the song sound different!

It seems Apple has created an advertising meme, and others are capitalizing on it. Though this rip-off is especially shameless, I recall an incident with Apple's Eminem ads that were neither authorized by Eminem, nor were they original – a Lugz ad with similar style predated it by about three years:

This seems to me like a purposeful ripoff... a parody, if you will.

This is just how it happens. Didn't anyone notice every other ad being shot on a white seamless background after the Switchers campaign?
TBWA\Chiat\Day Los Angeles does the Apple work, not sure if another TBWA\ agency did the ad in question, but I don't think they'd want to dilute their own ad campaign by doing ANOTHER one in the same style.

If it is a real rip off, just say LAWSUIT. If not steveco. will be quiet about it. Also remember, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, as long as no one copies the appleTV commercial, that one sucked.

There was a bwin TV-Spot that was made previously and resembled exactly the same storytelling features. It was aired all over europe. And it featured soccer-players in yellow/black. Add the ipodesque-LSD-stuff and you got a bad copyad. Disgusting. Maybe someone can find the bwin-ad online an post it here?
