Mac 101: Viewing long file names
Have you ever opened up a Finder window in column view and found yourself confronted with truncated file names? It's quite annoying. Here's a quick fix.At the bottom of the column, you'll see two short, vertical "pipes" (pictured above). Double click the pipes, and the window will instantly expand to accommodate the longest file name in the window. Hooray!

And if you option+double-click it will expand all available columns!

Now, what I want is a way to have all columns automatically expand to the length of their content's filenames.

Remember back in the day, where people was reluctant about the column view... looking too much like windows?
We've grown used to it now :)

I wish it was an option to make this happen automatically.

And if you Option-Drag it, it should stay in that position even after closing the Finder and reopening it.

If only "List View" could expand to accommodate the full length of filenames - it has a maximum and if your filename is longer too bad!

OK this is more like Mac 201 for me now haha. I'm no where near new to macs and I didn't know this. I feel stupid now.

Yeah, well it's something I already knew, but thanks for the tip anyway. The problem that remains is, once your column is resized the window is resized with it, by expanding its width to the right, which usually makes a big part of it outside of the screen.
Now, it would be great if the window, when already wide enough to fill the screen, would stop expanding and the necessary space would be reclaimed by scrolling the left columns to the left... I hope that's clear enough, english is clearly not my first language ;)
Cheers,
David.
