Star Trek Voyager Season 1 available on iTunes
Here's something that is going to shock you: I'm a big Star Trek fan. I know, who would have thought that a tech blogger (aka geek) would have a soft spot for Star Trek? Having said that, I never really got into Voyager. It might be because I never had a chance to see them in order, so the show wasn't able to work its way into my heart like the other series. However, I can now buy the first season of Voyager via iTunes for $30.99 (or pick and choose for $1.99 an episode) and give Voyager a second chance. The price even seems like a bargain seeing as how Amazon is selling the DVD set of Season 1 for close to $100 (though that set comes with extras that the iTunes version lacks).

I am also a big Trek fan, and it took me until the end of the second season or so before I really started to enjoy Voyager. I'm glad to see that iTunes is actually offering a price that is competitive, since in many cases it seems like it's cheaper (or about as cheap) to just buy the DVDs of many shows.

Does the iTS provide closed captions for their hearing impaired customers?
I have downloaded some of their freebie material, but I do not see CC anywhere.
Any ideas?

Boo! We want The Next Generation!

Admiral: sadly, Apple does not. Quicktime seriously lacks CC captioning. We should start a petition for it.

There are no closed captions. It's not that it's impossible; it's just that Apple hasn't yet bothered to implement subtitling in their video offerings. Perhaps if enough hearing impaired folks raised a stink, Apple would finally add the capability to their software and the captions to their video.
The DVDs may cost more, but they're WORTH more. It's just like buying a CD. When you've got the original media in hand your viewing options are in YOUR hands. Buy compressed video or audio from someone else, and they get to call the shots. Consumer freedom? What's that?
And if you're cheap like me, do what I do: NetFlix 'em.

Meh, Star Trek Voyager was the final nail in the Star Trek coffin for me. I'm all about the Classic Treks, Next Gen and a pinch of DS9. And the first 6 movies. :)
So, $30.99 is too expensive for me.

Voyager was much better than Enterprise which was just painfully bad... but it didn't touch Deep Space Nine, which remains the best of the modern Trek series.

I think Deep Space Nine was the suckiest addition to the franchise. Not to mention Enterprise, which was a pain to watch (apart from Jolene Blalock).
Anyway, TNG has some classic episodes I'd like to see again own (even though iTunes doesn't sell movies or series in Europe yet) and Voyager sorta grew on me.
I wonder, with all the crap going on here on our own planet, have we lost the idea of looking optimistically to the future? The whole franchise seems dead - a sign 'o' the times...

Voyager started okay then went downhill (so Season 1 could a good purchase). Enterprise started shakily, got worse, then started getting okay right at the end (season 4) when it was too late.
Some of Enterprise's time travel episodes were better than any of Voyager's yet-another-Borg-encounter.
Of course, nothing compares to a bald Englishman barking "Engage!" or a brash (young) American from Iowa doing a Jim Carrey impersonation.

The episodes on iTunes are abridged! Horrible!

The Voyager Encoding that iTunes had up was terrible.
Missing scenes, low resolution, etc.
I think iTunes Pulled it to Trash those bad copies and
put new ST:Voyager higher quality encodings up.
When people buy a TV Season on iTunes,
they really do deserve an encoding worthy of watching
on a 1080p 52" TV.
If the shows DON'T look crystal clear and sound Great on a
52" 1080p HDTV - then iTunes needs to pull that sloppy copy and redo the encoding.
What good is an AppleTV if the iTunes content is so low rez, everything looks blurry? Demand Higher Quality for your $$$!
Just because you can watch it on your iPod doesn't mean that watching it on your iPod is the Only choice...
Closed Caption support and alternative language support in iTunes is needed too. Especially for English/French/Spanish - that about covers most of the customer base in the American Continents.

I just came here to download the entire first seasons and it's gone! Very upsetting since I was going to have a Voyager marathon with my cousin this weekend. :(
