Starcraft II will be on the Mac (and PC)

Let me start this out by saying that I am not a gamer, which usually isn't a problem given I use a Mac (let's be honest, the Mac isn't the best platform for gaming). Despite my non-gamer status I loved StarCraft. I spent many, many more hours than I should have sending my brave Marines off to defend my starbase, and it looks like I will be doing it once more. Blizzard has announced that StarCraft II is a reality (though no shipping date has been announced). The best part is that Blizzard will be upholding their tradition of launching games for both Mac and PC at the same time. StarCraft II on an Intel Mac? I can't wait!
Our gaming obsessed sister blog Joystiq has a gallery of screenshots up for your enjoyment.
Thanks, A.J.

I was so excited when Blizzard announced SC2 that I was practically shaking. There goes my nights for a few months after it's released.
On a more somber note, I'm not to sure if my MacBook or Mini will be able to run SC2 with the integrated graphics. I may have to ditch the Macbook and go Pro if that's the case. I know the Macbook can run WOW, but I just don't think it will give me the "full experience".

I do believe a macbook or mac mini should be able to run SC2 with decent performance. I used to play WoW on a daily basis and my macbook kept up with me just fine. SC2 will likely be more intense on the graphics department but it shouldn't be too extreme.

Was there ever a serious question as to whether it would be on Mac?
Seriously, this is Blizzard we're talking about.

I hope that Blizzard's support of Macs eventually rubs off on other companies. I can always reboot into Windows to play games, but it's so much more convenient if I can just play them in OS X.

I just love blizzard for the premium support of Mac.

This is going to be a strong move for Blizzard despite the low penetration rate for Macs. The lack of top notch games may make this one for all Mac owning (console) gamers.

I am doing a study on influential bloggers on various blog sites. I have a preliminary model to study the blogging history of each blogger on a blog site and generate a list of influential bloggers. I used TUAW blog site as my experimental dataset due to its enthusiastic activity, focussed discussions and not to mention the overlap with my interests.
I am facing it hard to validate the results of the model. I think the best way to evaluate could be to ask the users (bloggers, comment-ers or readers) of TUAW blog site and have their feedback since no one would know better than the actual users at TUAW. It would be great if you could provide me top 5 members of this month whom you think might have influenced you by their blog post. I will then match these human suggested influential bloggers with those proposed by the model to analyze the accuracy.
If anyone is interested in discussing more about it then we can either discuss here or take it offline through exchange of emails. I could be reached at nagarwa6@asu.edu.

^ i think its a bit of a stretch to hope for universal compatiblity + for the system requirements to be that low....

I do not think the requirement will be low. ho no
do you watch the screen and video ? the unity are _huge_ and numerous. and they add the "havoc" physic engine. very cpu expensive.
no, they will surely ask an intel cpu and big nvidia/ati card.

Please don't let this game follow the path of Warcraft 3. I hated that game, and I was a huge WC2 and SC fan. Starcraft is one of my favorite games of all time, and I can't wait to see the new iteration.
We love you, Blizzard.

I really hope the Macbooks with 220 video integrated ram will be enough to run SC2. The graphics don't seem intensive but not as great as the crazy FPS games out there like Ghost Recon or BF...it's a little better than WC3.
However in the FAQ on SC2 it is said to be running on Vista and may utilize Directx 10, and from my knowledge Vista needs a minmium of 64mb video ram. I'm sure the hardware specs won't require intel dual core but maybe over 1.5ghz and at least 512 ram.

I just saw the preview trailer and gameplay videos. It looks awesome. A group of Zealots slaughter marines, who are then wiped out by siege tanks, that are eaten up by protoss immortals, who gets beaten up by some marines with jumpacks which are then defeated by Protoss Stalkers. Really cool. Check it out:

Ubuntu? Linux users (as a desktop) are so few that they make Mac users look like a lot of people.
