Adobe's CS3 icon branding taken to the next level - the rest of your apps

The new branding Adobe conceived for the new CS3 suite hasn't quite caught on with everyone just yet. Some say the icons are too bland and boring, while others like my friend John decided to take Adobe's 'periodic table of apps' concept to the next level. Via some icons found at sites like InterfaceLIFT and designing a few of his own, John has completely element-ized his entire Dock. In fact, I couldn't fit a decent picture that could display all the icons in this post, so head over to a TUAW gallery pic to take in the entire work of art - or monstrosity - depending on which side of the fence you sit on. Knock yourselves out if you feel like guessing each app - I have the entire list, but it won't be easy to nail 'em all.

[Update: For those that want a copy of most of these icons (some of them are home-made by my friend and not available publicly) as well as a few not shown here, TUAW reader David Mikula has quite a few available at his portfolio site, I Can't Fly. Thanks David!]

Folks: if you aren't happy with a post or another commenter here, that's totally fine. All we ask is that, while posting your arguments or disapproval, please check the foul language and personal attacks at the door. If something we're doing is upsetting you that much, then you don't have to read or hang out here. It's that simple. We simply ask that you don't flame us or other commenters; let's keep things civil.

The issue here is not being overly sensitive, it is that many say things without intelligence or tact. You may like it, or not like it, which is totally fine. I may not like many of the things you do, etc. To each their own. Just be civil about it and try not being so attacking about it.

David Pogue had a great article and debate about this not long ago in the Times. Once again, if you don't like it fine. But calling me (anonymously not less) a retard is a bit too much.

My email address was included, to Dimebag and the other jackass, so if you would like to conclude the conversation outside of public view, please do.

I don't like it. Too bland for me.

#22 (Down10): I thought it was satire too, but John Gaskell's defense in the comments above seems to imply this icon set was created with no ironic intent. IMHO, Mr. Gaskell needs to go back to PC land.

Hate it… Definitely not my cup o' tea. @John Gaskell do words seriously hurt you that much. Grow some thicker skin dude. Be prepared to have your ass beaten for being an overly sensetive a$$hole. Big puss.

"For instance, what are the two "iC" icons in different colors? What's the rest of it? Who knows!"

What a silly statement. Would Adobe do that with two of their own products?

Take the same approach and make all of your icons in the style of another product line and it'd be a similar dumb move. If you have 5 Adobe products installed you'll know which 5 they are because they're obviously different, and you'll know what program they're associated with because they'll be different enough from each other.

"I installed Photoshop, but I have NO IDEA what icon to click on! Oh no, I can't figure out the icons! Well, I might as well take a dump on these icons because it's obviously Adobe's branding that makes it so I don't know what programs I installed."

Ugh.

What's even funnier than satirical ideas like these is the hilariously ernest comments that dim-bulbs (like Thayne Miller, Joshua Ochs, and Playstation 3) will post in response.

In defense of myself, the OC part of me hated having some of the new icons but not all. Are some of the fonts not quite correct? Yep. Do I really care? Nope.

As for the less than polite responses (yay for retards), that is the great/worst thing about the internet. You get to say stuff in public that would get your arse knocked out if said to my (or someone else's) face. Take your meds, Thayne Miller, and turn your internal filter back on. Jackass.
