Apple ad spoofs with PC as the protagonist
This one has been climbing up the bloggeist for a few weeks, and it's a fine apertif for the start of the holiday weekend. Copywriter Laurie McGuinness, moonlighting as a commercial parody director, made a series of four Mac/PC ad spoofs in early 2007, with PC as the businesslike, successful protagonist and Mac as the geeky, freelance hand-to-mouth sidekick. (Is it just me, or does the guy playing PC look like a thinner, less crazy version of John Dvorak?)All four ads are viewable on McGuinness' site or on YouTube, and they're mostly moderately funny; one exception is the 'Music' spot, which suggests that iPod users are selfish goobers who don't like to share music. Poor form!
If you've got a favorite Mac/PC ad parody, let me know in the comments and I'll highlight the top choices in a weekend post.
Thanks, Beth!

I've always thought these were funny.
Wow. How are these "parodies" any better than "uhhh...I know you are but what am I?". Lame.

Those were funny. Funnier still is how so many people here are taking it so personally. It's okay for you to make fun of people but, when they turn around and do the same all you can say is, "This is completely flamebait and there is no substance to it." or,"...all of these ads are awful. They seem to end abruptly without making any point at all."
To somebody who's used Macs and PCs, I even have OSX running on my PC, it's spot on. Both computers have strenghts and weaknesses get over it.
I've always wanted a PC/Mac comercial that went like this:
Mac: Hey PC, I'm watching Battlestar Gallactica on my Ipod. It only cost me $1.99. Do you wanna watch it with me?
PC: No thanks, Mac. I recorded it on my Windows Media Center PC last night, before you could get it on iTunes, and it didn't cost me a dime.
These ads betray the premise. How is a computer going to go skiing? Why does a computer need to pay rent? Maybe if they said, "Hi, I'm a Mac user," but its bad writing by a dumb woman.

Most of us just sit on our butts and criticize, as I was going to do, but the people who did this did so for fun, and possibly to kick start their creative careers, and whether we like the writing or not, they poked fun at what is now the status quo.
Very Macintosh.
I always liked these 3.

The PC world continues to follow. Let the great ones innovate, and the others just copy them, never coming up with anything original. That has been the microsoft model from the ms-dos days.
