Who says there's no such thing as a free lunch? (Robert Heinlein says it, but that's not the point.) Check out this funky little button on the iTunes front page this morning. Granted, while the Apple Store is down it does nothing in particular, but soon, my precious, it will offer college students a free iPod Nano with every Mac purchase. Yummy.Use Spotlight as a reference tool. Type any word in the Spotlight box and one of the top entries will be a definition. Click on it, and it will bring up the dictionary application to check the word in either the dictionary, thesaurus, Apple database, or Wikipedia.

This is like the deal they were doing when I bought my Mac, I purchased a 30GB Video iPod and got a £100 rebate... took apple 5 months to finally give me the cash, customer support was Sh**e.

I agree with the new ipod nano comment...and i'm sad this only applys to people buying NEW macbooks AND you have to pay for the nano up front and then get a rebate...I only have $1200 and need a superdrive (i mean shouldn't EVERY computer come with a dvd burner now?) so I definitely can't buy the low end model, and cant afford the middle + initial nano cost...oh well, i'll just wait for a new nano/ipod video and settle for my last gen blackbook - enjoy those of you who can get this!

This is an annual deal. I took advantage of it pretty much exactly a year ago to get my Macbook.

So do you think that after June 29th the iphone will qualify as an ipod and you can get $200 towards it.
I checked the rebate form, and it's not included yet.

@ Klemens: I don't know if Friedman said something similar, but TANSTAAFL is prominent in The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.
And the principle is still true: freebies like this are built into the profit margin, just like a rebate when you buy your car is not really free money.

They did this same promotion last year. When I got my MacBook I got a 60GB iPod for like $200 less.
