Coda 1.0.3 is available

The busy folks at Panic have released Coda 1.0.3. We know what you're thinking - that's quite a minor release to highlight on TUAW. We thought so, too, until we saw the laundry list of changes that are a part of this update. Highlights include:
  • Reorder your tabs with drag and drop
  • New ASP / VBScript syntax mode
  • Cold Fusion (CFML) syntax mode
  • Drop a folder on the Dock icon to change the local file list to that folder (cool)
There's more, of course, and you can get the full run-down here. Coda retails for $99 and requires 10.4 or later.

Thanks, Nik!

Zend is an IDE, with built-in debugging, etc. Coda is just a text editor with syntax coloring and other features related to webdesign/site maintenance built in--an FTP client, a Terminal window, etc. "Better" is in the eye of the beholder. They're very different products. The best thing to do would be to download the demo.

I'm mostly doing PHP development and I'm using Zend. Is Coda better than Zend?

Yeah, it's good and all, although a bug in it messed up the encoding, and such I am not able to code with the new version, if I would save my files, some of the special characters of the Swedish alphabet (Ã…) would be scrambled and mess up the file.

So, if you're using special characters, I would be cautious.

Coda is by far the greatest mac editor I have ever used for web development. I recommend it over all others, as I have tried them all. It's new and it isn't perfect yet, but it's sure close. If you do any kind of web dev/coding this software is well worth the $79, also if you already have a Panic Transmit license Coda is only $69.
