Skin your Apple TV with an Apple TV Skin

No one has ever accused me of being stylish (I'm the type of geek who wears Hawaiian shirts and shorts most of the time), so I might not be the best person to write about iStyle's new Apple TV Skins. The Skins are basically stickers that you can slap onto your Apple TV to give it a little personality, and the kits come with a matching sticker for your Apple Remote (which would make it easier for multiple Apple Remote households to tell which remote goes with which device).

The Apple TV Skins cost $14.99 each.

What a great idea! Stick something on top of something that gets hot! Air flow? Who needs it?
Hold on, I need to put this stack of books on my G4 cube.

I'm sorry, it looks really cool, but I prefer the beauty of the Apple hardware.

They are interesting pictures.

I don't expect to get the aTV unless it changes significantly first. Still, if I bought one, I'd rather the device be what it is than decorated. Even if I were to decorate it, covering the top would be useless because mine would be on a shelf only seen edge-on, not displayed top face out, like on a plate display or something. The pictures don't show whether there is an edge band - if it's not there, then I'd think it's a little strange looking.

interesting.. Decalgirl.com have had the exact same AppleTV designs for ages now. (I've ordered PS3 and PSP skin from them before)

My AppleTV is hot enough that I'd worry these would melt.

I thought the whole point of having little boxes was so they wouldn't attract notice? Silly me.

Actually the AppleTV, as it is, is probably the nicest looking thing next to my HDTV right now.

(although I do like the aTV9000. :) Dave... are you sure you want to stream instead of sync? Maybe you should take a stress pill and we can talk about it... I predict the wifi network will go 100% failure just when you want to watch the latest Galacticast podcast, Dave... Maybe you should go outside on the slippery roof to repair it...)

Looks like it might make your living room a bit more gaudy!! PERFECT! for us nerds. I do like the black one... HOWEVER... one small consideration - the  TV top surface gets hot - I mean really-don't-put-it-on-your-bare-legs hot. So if these are stickies - not a good plan...

The perfectly nerdly alternative (with the black at least) is to get a good thermally conductive paint and tint it with heaps of carbon nano-tubes ($8-9000 worth should do) and then glob it on the top - it would act as a heat dissipation system. Heh....

This might have been useful if they actually provided some backdrops that could actually be used in the interface itself.
