Clever iPod advertising in South Africa
Starting with the infamous 1984 Super Bowl television commercial, Apple's advertising campaigns have become almost as unique and interesting as their retail products. Check out some images of this recent campaign, created by Net#Work BBDO in South Africa to announce the functionality of video iPods. Staged in movie theaters, the campaign featured tiny boxes of popcorn that bore the slogan, "iPod: Movies in your pocket," as well as tiny movie posters and even an iPod-sized trailer on the big screen. Pretty clever.
Thanks, Ivan!

Don't they mean Fresh PodCorn?

It all about the local laws and negotiations with the studios about the markets. Things must have worked out well in the negotiations in South Africa.

While Apple may have great advertising, it is completely wasted because we don't even have an Apple store in South Africa. Granted you can buy (or download) software to rip movies to your iPod but even that is unlawful in this country (I don't believe our version of fair use extends to this sort of thing).
So, yes, 5 points to Apple for cool ads and minus 10 points for not bothering to open some sort of Apple store in this country and for misleading South African iPod users.
Apple is the best when it comes to advertising.

Wait - so the iTunes Store sells movies in South Africa? Did I miss something? I don't think so... Germany has the third biggest market in the world and still doesn't has movies.
I want movies!!
So - I don't thinks it's very clever to announce video functionality when you actually can't buy them... actually you had to rip them... pretty much steal them in order to play them on an iPod..
