Modding Apple's calculator widget

Jonas at the MacThemes Forums got tired of looking at the "...old Cartoonish orangy interface" of Apple's calculator Dashboard widget. So, he made his own. It's a simple black affair with recessed buttons. We think it looks sharp.

When you install it, you'll be asked if you want to replace the existing Calculator widget. Just say "Yes." (of course, you made a backup first, right?).

I don't think the order of operations is something worth complaining about. I know that order of operations is significant, I just never trusted the computer to get it right even when I was writing a program.

I don't think those computer calculators are intended to be like that.

My Casio desktop & pocket calculators get nine as well, because they aren't designed to operate on more than two numbers at a time.

MY KINGDOM FOR A HP12C WIDGET! I've googled and searched high and low only to get buggy shareware.

"2. The mod looks nice. Too bad the following still holds true:

Calculator.App: 1 + 2 * 3 = 7 (arguably correct)
Calculator Widget: 1 + 2 * 3 = 9 (arguably incorrect)

Looks like Calculator needs further modding :-)

Oh my God...if you just add 1 + 2, and then multiply it by 3, it will be 9. Why? Because this is not a scientific calculator. If I add up the hours I worked and wanted to multiply it by my hourly pay, then this calculator works fine. If I want to solve algebraic equations, I wouldn't be stupid enough to attempt it on a standard calculator. You are "arguably" incorrect.

the way i was taught, it's more like P, E, MD, AS... in the sense that MD and AS are done together, equally. there's no preference between addition and subtraction.

I love that no one's noticed the number on the calculator is 1337.

haha, I did that go go redball hack. I stuck a "steal your face" picture in there....
I also changed the color of the weather widget when it hits the evening phase. instead of the maroon, it's not a dark green color and both day and night are lightly transparent.
it looks very nice, I have to admit.

I've modified it further to work with PEMDAS. http://macthemes2.net/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=157172#p157172

I just use the PEDMAS widget, witch surprisingly follows the PEDMAS order of operations ulike the normal widget.

For those who dont know what PEDMAS is (sorry if some are wring since i know it in french), Paranthesis, Exponential, Division, Multiplication, Addition and finally Substraction. Do them in that order.

Technically, you need not replace /Library/Widgets/Calculator.widget. Instead, just place the themed one in ~/Library/Widgets, and it will automatically supersede the one in the OS Library without being destructive.
