iGTD 1.4.4 update brings, uh, way too many new features

Something tells me the crew who writes iGTD (fortunately) never really grasped how application version systems work (for the record: I say this with the warmest of intentions; iGTD is the first GTD-based app that I really 'get' and use). Typically, a company releases a 1.0, follows up with a few 1.x.x updates to fix bugs and quirks, and maybe a few 1.x releases that add a new feature or two. But as anyone who has been following the last few minor updates can tell, the new features brought with each 1.x.x release are really worthy of major 2.x and 3.x releases. This morning I woke to just such an update (v1.4.4) that brings a landslide of new and handy feature updates, including:
- F-key integration with Journler, endo RSS news reader, VoodooPad Pro, EagleFiler and WebnoteHappy
- exporting smart folders added ('To complete' tab)
- Don't forget! feature - use the Tasks menu option to display a sticky reminder about a task... click it to jump to the task
- Send to stickies feature - use the Tasks menu option to display selected tasks as Apple Sticky note
- E-mail feature - use the Tasks menu option to e-mail selected tasks via Apple Mail
- MailTags 2.0. enhancement: flagged e-mails are imported as flagged tasks
- MailTags 2.0. enhancement: a prefs setting to use the MT e-mail notes as a name for task in iGTD
- last selected smart folder is saved and restored between launches
- integration with Services menu (logout/login required): select a text in any app, go to app menu / Services submenu and use the 'iGTD/Put into iGTD inbox option'
- new mode for search panel: 'Search by project name or note'
- and much, much more

I'm new to the whole mac scene, but I really like it so far... especially tuaw.com!
I recently setup my Sony W300i cell phone to sync via the blueberries with isync, and finally to ical. It works really well to have a to do list that I can easily access anytime/anywhere. But this program obviously has a lot more features that appeal to me.
So, the question... finally... would this be able to sync with my phone so I could have a similar configuration as above? If so, please point me in the right direction! Thanks,
Aaron

#1: It sure could Aaron! (and welcome to the Mac, by the way). iGTD is designed to sync with iCal, so the best way to keep everything synchronized is to open iGTD and go into the preferences window. There, go to the Syncing tab (not .Mac) and check out the options available to you; you can sync specific kinds of tasks and even specify whether iSync kicks into gear to sync all your devices.
iGTD isn't the only GTD-based app that can sync with iCal and your other devices, however. Check our GTD tag here at TUAW to see other apps like this that can work with iCal and your phone:

Enjoy!

iGTD is awesome! I, too, have been surprised with not only the frequency of the updates, but the amount of new features and fixes of each one.
I have to say, it makes the other applications I use seem like they never get updated. One in particular would be Cha-Ching.
I very much appreciate all the time, effort, and hard work everyone at iGTD puts into that product... every waking second I'm on my computer, I use that program.

He (they?) just announced on the blog that 1.4.5 is out on Wednesday! Talk about fast!!
How about a iGTD screencast?

If I wanted to get into the whole GTD thing, what's a good website to read and "get it" so that I could use iGTD?

I used kGTD for the longest time, but I got tired of its quirks. While waiting for the new Omni GTD app (OmniFocus) to come out, I decided to test drive iGTD.
I still can't believe how fast the developer has upgraded this app, especially to include what several people have asked to see in it. Omni is going to have to do an amazing job for me to move to them.
I'm also a big Journler user, so this newest iGTD update has me perfectly happy.

I use iGTD, but rather than adding support for all these third-party applications, I'd much prefer the time be spent refining the interface and implementing proper .Mac synchronization support (enable/disable via System Preferences).
The UI is improved from a few revisions ago, but it's still clunky.

i second everything #6 said, iGTD was a little rough in its early stages but that's ancient history now; you'd never believe it was donationware these days.
Omni needs to get OmniFocus out quickly if they want anyone to buy it. i'd originally signed up to test their beta but it's been so long now. i'm pretty entrenched as an iGTD user.

#4: "How about a iGTD screencast?"
You know, that isn't a half bad idea. I have a few plans already in place for the next couple of episodes, but I think I might do a little more exploration and tinkering to take you up on your offer.
No promises just yet though; we'll have to see how things pan out. ;)

I love iGTD. It's a critical part of my workflow now. With each new release there's really no reason to PAY for the competition in GTD apps. The developer is one of the most responsive I have ever seen and iGTD has a growing online community in its forums. It's really become a mature product.

I'd like to watch a screencast too. I'm using the program but I think I'm missing some stuff as I'm not familiar with the so-called GTD protocol.

iGTD is great, but I was reminded this morning that it is a beta app. I hit sync (on the latest release), and POOF - ALL my data was gone. Others have reported the same type of issue. As a result, I'm backing up the files on a daily basis. Great app - just still requires a bit of caution when using.

Kevin, the whole GTD concept is based on a book called "Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity" by David Allen. That's really the best place to get started. You should be able to find it at any bookstore and even Audible.com. Doing a Google search brought me right to David Allen's website at:
http://www.davidco.com/
I personally have not read the book and I know very little about David Allen's writings. So, it's unlikely that I'm even getting a fraction of the benefits of the GTD idiology from iGTD. Even if you don't strictly follow it or even know anything about it, iGTD is a rather easy application to just jump into and start organizing yourself better.

I've done a bit of trial myself with at least 4 GTD apps for the Mac (not including online apps) and iGTD is, in my opinion, the most comprehensive. It can be a little overkill for certain levels of use - akin to Photoshop I suppose, but it's all there.
I agree that the iCal Sync issue was, and continues to be, a bit of a kink for some, but I haven't seen a piece of software been attended to as fast as iGTD regarding updates and fixes etc.
I've read there are plans for a commercial version in addition to the current donationware version, so I expect nothing but continued improvements. If you haven't already, give it a try.

Kevin et al-
I can't recommend the book enough. As a manager / exec / developer in IT, I tried just about everything to get control of my crazy schedule. Covey has some good recommendations, for example, but they did not work for me in the long run. GTD completely changed the way that I organize myself on a daily basis. I went from having literally hundreds of unmanaged emails to having a clean inbox! Give it a shot - it really worked for me. Its incredibly easy, btw.

I love this app. How is it that the screen shot of your app, doesn't look like mine? You seem to have buttons and features that I don't though. My version is up to date. The screen shots on their website look like mine too. What gives, yours looks cool!!!
