Snapz Pro X Universal Binary
Ambrosia today announced a Universal version of their premiere screen capture software, Snapz Pro 2. Snapz Pro, for those who are not in the know, Snapz Pro makes recording a screencast easy. It also lets you record anything that is playing on your screen (and the audio) so you can save it later (DVD's of public domain movies, and YouTube videos for example). This version also brings with it a number of bug fixes, and it works on Leopard (for those lucky developers out there who have a copy). Snapz Pro costs $29.00(image capture only) or $69.00 (image and screen capture).

*Yawn* Let me know when there is something close to SnagIt (Windows) for the Mac. Skitch looks like the closest thing, but SnagIt is still leagues ahead. Not to mention Camtasia or Captivate for motion screen captures.
Screen capture utilities in OS X are in a sad state compared to the Windows world.
The guys at Ambrosia might want to think about actually adding some new *features* to this dusty old app Snapz Pro. Universal binary? That's so 2006.

In contrast to Quix, I'm very excited about the UB of Snapz Pro. Snapz does what I need in a screen capture utility, cleanly and with no fuss. Skitch is gorgeous and ImageWell is functional, but Snapz is my choice.

These products fill different niches, IMO. Just as there's no shortage of "life storage" apps for Macs... I just Snagit on PC, it's awesome. But Snapz I use for recording desktop video quite nicely. I'd use Skitch for stills, I'm sure. And if you throw in something like Mousepose from Boinx, you have a very robust screencast tool, still a bargain at the price.

What was most interesting about this release is what Andrew Welch told Macworld. (http://www.macworld.com/news/2007/06/21/snapzprox/index.php?lsrc=mwrss)
"If you use Snapz Pro X, you’ll be astounded by what we are working on,” said Ambrosia president Andrew Welch. Additional details will be revealed in the future."

Finally!
Snagit and Camtasia are crap. They take lousy recordings and make you redraw the capture window size every time you record.

Because Snapz was not a universal binary, I switched over to iShowU a long time ago:

Its a decent app for recording desktop videos and costs a lot less. Only 20 $.

yeah, iShowU is a lot better than Snapz. I only used the demo of both, but it still convinced me to buy iShowU

Strange, my version of SnapZ Pro has been Universal for months.

Jeff,
No it hasn't.
SnapzProX has been "Intel compatible" for months (meaning it worked as a PPC application under Rosetta without crashing). But it has neither been Universal OR Intel optimized until now.
Either way, it's too little, too late, as iShowU has pretty much surpassed any advantage SnapzPro used to have. And I say that as a SnapzPro license holder for over 4 years.
