Apple just posted a bunch of software updates over at its download site. Updates include Final Cut Pro 6.0.1, Motion 3.0.1 (improves stability, resolves performance issues), Color 1.0.1, Compressor 3.0.1, Soundtrack Pro 2.0.1, a combo-style Pro Applications Update, and a SuperDrive Firmware Update 2.1 (improves readability of certain CD media).
Thanks Mason Jagel.

Hmm, it says my new MBP doesn't need the update. Too bad, I was hoping it would explain the poor performance (IMHO) of my Superdrive.

After installing this update, the SuperDrive Update 2.1 utility program keeps launching upon start-up of Mac OS. How can I turn it off?

I just installed the superdrive firmware update. The update doesn't ask to restart the machine straight after, I thought this was strange for a DVD drive update, so I quit update and restarted. Just after my desktop disappeared, I saw the "Matsushita drive update in progress" or some similar progress bar, with "Do not restart your computer while this is in progress". Of course it was already too late, my macbook restarted when it was at 60% and now my drive won't accept media (no auto loading). I'm gonna try installing the firmware again, but from what I know about installing drive firmware on PCs, I don't have much confidence.
Beware.

update: I tried to reinstall the firmware update from a downloaded copy. It wouldn't let me, said it was up to date. I changed a bit of the code inside the installer package and it installed the firmware updater program (though maybe it was already installed) in applications/utilities. The SuperDrive Update 2.1 won't work, says "No devices were found that require this firmware update."
computer off, battery out, press the on button for 5 seconds to reset, startup. The drive doesn't make it's usual wheezing noise at startup, won't accept discs (usually it pulls them in).
Bricked.
Here's some people on the Apple forums with the same thing:

WTF? Mine fits the criteria (15" 2.0GHz MBP) but it won't show up in Software Update and it won't install.

At system start the Superdrive update 2.1 keeps popping up, just as for yitping above. How do I turn this off?

Is there any software fix out there yet for disabled SuperDrives on MB, caused by the SuperDriveUpdater2.1 that was supposed to "fix" and "improve" performance of "some media".
I love Apple -- been using since High School, but they are really gonna piss a bunch of "switchers" off like this.
