iTunes 7.3 unexpectedly, shockingly available
Wow, this is so completely surprising! iTunes 7.3 is out now, and the 33.8 MB (Mac version) download offers new features including... well, including what we all knew was coming. Good luck to everyone standing in line trying to work off nearby WiFi to get the new version.Update: Comments have pointed out that in addition to the iPhone support, this update also fixes longstanding Coverflow problems on the MacBook, and adds wireless photo sharing from multiple computers to AppleTV.
Thanks, mentalsticks.

Wonder why they've changed around the Artist listings beginning with a number (i.e. 30 seconds to mars) from the top before 'A' to after 'Z'!

@Fraser: Is that what it is? I noticed something looks better, but I couldn't figure out what...
Also, for some mysterious reason, my airtunes connection that suddenly stopped working a month ago has come back to life...

@Richard, that is odd, but you can change it back by messing with the "Sort Artist" field on all your 30 Seconds to Mars. Maybe just change it to "aa30 Seconds to Mars" to bump it to the top of the alphabet.

Looks like they fixed the bug where podcasts weren't having sound check information calculated. Should sound much better now listening to podcasts and not have to constantly change the volume when a new one starts playing.

@Richard. Yea, they did it to movies too.
And they also changed the highlight color for the left panel. its dark blue instead of black.

After installing iTunes, I'm having the same problem as schölli. iTunes starts to launch, then quits. No error message.

I don't want to be one of those super-critical, cynical-as-hell blog readers, but um...
The iPhone support isn't news.
The fact that you can now wirelessly stream photos to AppleTV is news.

theres also a new "iPhone Help" item in the Help menu.
It points to manuals at:

Is Apple's iPhone/iTunes Activation Process A Trojan Horse For Even Better Things?
Something wonderful is going to happen at 6:00 PM on June 29, 2007 - and it isn't the introduction of Apple's iPhone. Don't get me wrong - that will be a great thing, too, and I intend to get one (although I'm not about to stand in a queue all night - I'll just order online and let Mr. FedEx drop it at my door).
No, the great thing that will be happening is that, for the very first time in the 20+ years of cellular phone sales history, you won't have to go through the activation process in the store where you bought the phone.
With no disrespect meant to the hard-working salespeople in retail I can tell you that my experiences in getting phones activated (and I've gone through this, conservatively speaking, about 25 times) has been uniformly unpleasant. It's a mysteriously long, convoluted and repetitive process that makes you feel like the Tin Man - frozen in time - being serviced by the Scarecrow (if they only had a brain).
Why the process couldn't be more automated has always been a source of frustration to me; in a world of web sites, over the air programming and broadband access isn't this something that I could do myself?

7.3 is impressively quicker than any other versions of iTunes I used. Podcasts used to take 15-30 seconds before playing, now it's instant. Scrolling in lists and coverflow is smoother. Cool!
And the black gradient is gone... Back to aqua.

Just installed it in my Windows office computer. I'm running Office 2007 and the iTunes plug-in for Outlook doesn't work. I had to disable the plug-in in order to be able to run Outlook. Not sure if it's just my machine. I had no other issues with this update. Disabling the plug-in in Outlook makes everything work again, but it loses the sync capabilities (in case I had an iPhone, which I don't).

#15.
I remember activating my phones online for years now. You go to the carrier's web site, enter your phone's ID#, your SIM# and in minutes you have your new phone # and your phone is ready to use. I have done that with Rogers and Fido (Canada).

It says you can now stream your photos to Apple TV. Well, I downloaded it and I don't see how that's supposed to work. Yes, I can sync my photos, but stream them? Uh, no.
