Rumor: iLife '07 ready to go
According to MacScoop, "sources" have stated that the next release of Apple's iLife suite has gone gold master. In fact, if they're to be believed, it could be released before Leopard in October.Macworld '07 came and went without even a mention of iLife. January became February, and now here we are in July with no official word from Apple. Some have speculated that iLife will be a part of the OS from here on out, and no longer as a stand alone purchase. MacScoop contradicts that theory by saying that iLife could ship this summer.
Of course, rumors are just that. In the end, we aren't any closer to iPhoto '07 than we were yesterday.

If the rumours of iMac updates in the 'mid to late summer' turn out to be true then perhaps this is going to be part of the package? It would help distinguish from the current iMac line.

Why would Apple bundle iLife into OS X? It's an additional revenue stream that they would be losing unless they upped the cost of the OS by $99, which would be a really bad thing to do.
Of course, with all the money they're making off the iPhone, maybe they could stand to drop the iLife revenue stream.

Any rumors about what the big new features are? Hopefully a lot of new features in iWeb?
What else are we looking for?

Josh: Bundling iLife into the OS would appear to make them lose $79 per copy, but that wouldn't necessarily be the case. Consider the part of the market that isn't necessarily interested in getting Leopard. They need something else to entice them. New iLife could do that, meaning Apple just got $129 instead of $79.
It would really depend on how many copies of iLife are typically purchased, rather then the copies which are preinstalled on a new machine. I have no idea what the ratio is, but I suspect that if Apple dide this, they'd have good financial reasoning.

they are keeping this baby in the box until Leopard launches... or just waiting for January

Jobs said in one of his January Keynote's (I forget which one) that everything would be built into Leopard. With Leopard iLife is part of the OS ... a tricky way of gettting everyone to upgrade. Get a new OS AND the new iLife for 1 low price!

I hope everything is bundled for the regular $129 price tag. That would be easier (and not to mention cheaper).

@2: iWork is what I'm anxious for, too! We're opening up an office soon and want to know what software will need to be purchased now or later.

Something else I was thinking.. What about iLife for Windows? Before everybody starts booing and moaning.. Apple just released Safari for Windows, and look how many downloads it got? Maybe Safari was a sort of test to see how Windows users would react to more Apple software available to them (Safari and iTunes) It's just a thought, but you never know. iLife for Windows could be in the near future.

They Will not bundle iLife... for one reason.. iTunes is still (loosely) part of iLife. The fact hat it comes as part of iLife means it is not part of the os, as WMP is with XP/Vista... therefore no anti-competition rulings from the EU etc.
Apple being Apple i;m sure they would find a way around this, however i think that makes sense

It's got to be iLife '08, right? They're not going to release iLife '07 now and iLife '08 at MacWorld in January...

Yeah, it would seem better to release it as iLife '08, since, you know, it would be 2007 for less than a year after its release. Even Microsoft is naming its Mac Office, 2008, instead of 2007. If iLife/iWork gets released anywhere near Leopard, it would be smarter to name it '08, and take the extra time to work on iLife '09, to be released on MacWorld '09.

if you have a look at the Spaces video from the WWDC (on the apple website), you can see the new version of iPhoto 07 already.

Rather than doing iLife (and hopefully iWork) '07/'08 I think they'll switch over to versioning scheme without years. It just makes more sense in terms of determining compatibility and avoids issues such as '07 being released on the end of '07 and thus looking old on the beginning of '08.

Including iLife 07 (though really closer to 08 now) in Leopard would be a great enticement to upgrade to 10.5.
However, if it was going to be bundled, I feel sure the WWDC keynote would have presented it as such. It was pretty final, to the point where Jobs more or less said, "these are the features and it will sell for $129."
A different enticement could be if the next iLife only worked on Leopard. That way, Apple gets an iLife sale, AND a Leopard sale.
But if you want Leopard and iLife free, just buy a new Mac...
Everyone wins.

My worry is that if they bundle iLife into the OS, they will lose incentive to keep updating it. I'd rather pay for frequent updates and improvements.
