Invisible Shield now available for the iPhone
Since picking up my iPhone a week ago (has it been a week already?), I've lived in fear of that first scratch. How long will I be able to put it off? I carry my iPhone around like a newborn. That's silly, of course. The iPhone is a tool and should be treated as such. To ease my mind, I ordered an Invisible Shield. We've discussed Invisible Shield a number of times. Basically, it's a super-strong film that you apply directly to your precious, keeping it from harm. I saw a demo at MacWorld a few years ago, and was very impressed.
Once it arrives, I'll let you know how it performs. Invisible Shield for iPhone comes with a lifetime guarantee, costs $24.95US and is shipping now.

Invisible Shield may offer great protection for your device, but if you keep your iPhone in an incase case on your belt, for example, the black case discolors the plastic on the Invisible Shield where the phone makes contact with the case, making it look very unappealing. Besides, with time, the film yellows and makes the back of the iphone look like crap. She Invisible Shield discolors very easily, something all of you who think this stuff is GREAT, have missed. Yeah, it'll protect the iphone from being scratched, but in the end, it'll look like crap. I ripped mine off the phone and called them for a refund, but all they offered is a replacement of the same crap and admitted that the film does discolor after a while..it picks up dyes from your jeans, your backpack, your belt clip...anything. It sucks. Find another way to protect your iphone and other equipment before you throw your money away. You've been warned.

The only part that is not covered (when properly applied) is the top surface while the iPhone is sitting face-up on a table.
There were 8 pieces in all:
-1 front (screen)
-1 back (covers Apple logo side and curves around other sides)
-2 pieces for the chrome above the ear hole and below the home button
-4 teardrop pieces to cover the corners.
It was challenging to put it on straight, but I managed to get it looking pretty good. The squeegee (sp?) they provided was crap (mine was mishapen) so I used a credit card, which worked perfectly.
I haven't noticed any discoloration yet. I can imagine that after a long time, the plastic would become discolored, but it's perfectly clear at this point. Held at the right angle, one can see a waviness to the surfaces, but it does not affect the look of the iPhone in any way.
The feel is quite a bit different: it is not slippery at all anymore. Before the shield, I had a rubber case for it, but that was too bulky. Now, I have ditched the case and kept the shield, as it provides a non-slippery grip that keeps me confident that it will not slip out of my hands.
The worst part about the Invisible Shield is friends. One of my buddies saw me showing it off my scratching my keys across it. He had the bright idea that if it can take scratches, it can take stabs. So, he took out a pen and (with the blunt end, thankfully) began stabbing my screen. Now I have a 10th of a row of off-color pixels (they don't show white properly) and a stupid story about how I got them.
I have my invisible shield coming in any day now. I love my iPhone and i have the incase rubber case ( which i dont like cause it streaches out and now doesnt fit snugly) and a screen protector (yes the iPhone screen can get scratches, i got one and exchanged the phone for a new one, and i completely babied that thing) Anyways on to the question: Does the invisible shield, full body one, cover the 'aluminum' part of the front? Also does the iPhone fit into the dock charger with the full body shield on? Thanks for the help guys!

It is nearly impossible to apply, and it makes the front of the iPhone look like bubble wrap. I couldn't send this product back fast enough. Avoid at all costs. Find another way to protect your iPhone. You will never be able to apply this like the "pros" on their website.

Best Skins Ever also has a iPhone shield avaialable. It's said to be the exact same stuff for a fraction of the cost. ($7.99 vs $24.95)

same material as invisible shield. 1/3 of the price but no 'lifetime' warranty.
I use the 3M film on my Nano for 1/10th of the cost.

They work really well, but eventually, at least on mine, a yellowish tint showed up on the front of the ipod(my ipod is white). The reflective back of the iPod is fine, but the front is just a little yellow. So yeah.

> I took it one step further and poured water on mine
Oh come on! What would happen if a normal iPhone would get wet? I bet the same. The invisible shield doesn't seal any leaks, it just is on top of the glas. Which seems pretty waterproof already to me.
Something EXTREMELY important when applying an Invisible Shield is the use of the spray that comes with it. I bought one for my 1G iPod nano and had a hell of a time applying it and I ended up messing it up pretty good. I following the included instructions to a T. I watched a video on their website and they instruct you to spray your fingertips before applying the Shield. Looking back, this seems obvious, but it was NOT mentioned in the instructions I had. So, if you buy any Invisible Shield, make sure you spray your finger tips before trying to apply it. And, wash your hands, no oils!
