QuickTime 7.2/iTunes 7.3.1 now available

Fire up Software Update, kids, there are new versions of iTunes and QuickTime in town. iTunes 7.3.1 fixes an issue were some users of iTunes 7.3 couldn't access their music libraries anymore (a problem which Apple calls 'minor,' but seems kind of major to me).

QuickTime 7.2, the far more interesting update of the two, has some security updates and:
  • Support for full screen viewing in QuickTime Player
  • Updates to the H.264 codec
  • Numerous bug fixes
That first one is the bigger. Gone are the days of having to plunk down cold hard cash for QuickTime Pro simply to watch videos in full screen. This is has been a long time coming, and let be the first to thank you, Apple.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

I started to update the Quicktime with Safari for windows, and almost all plain html sites broke
See this webpage in your latest Safari and see if its broken:
Open Summary: http://openid.in

Do you see the logo? see it once in FF and compare

Be nice if between MacFixit and everyone else, someone would PROPERLY troubleshoot this upgrade. I have not had a single problem EVER using Software Update, but the FUD on this release is enormous.

And I think most trouble reports are simply on the clent side, the user, the loose nut behind the keyboard.

Like Joe and Phil, I am experiencing horribly slow load time and huge resource stealing when loading AVIs now... Front Row is almost unusable now.

I am having some negative experiences with this Quicktime update. AVIs that would load in seconds now put the CPUs at 90% each for about a minute and then finally play. Front Row is dead slow. any ideas? 24" iMac with 2GB RAM.

If anybody still has problems with flash not working (as I had), reinstall Adobe Flash Player. Worked like a lucky charm!

The Quicktime update also created a couple of new iPhone-friendly export options, for those Pro users out there.

@DrWho

Well, my External HD was originally a back up for all my film work. But when it became 100s of GBs of footage and cuts, I couldn't really keep it on my local drive anymore.

How do you back up 400GB of videos that are 10GB+ size? The feature length movie I'm making a trailer for on was filmed in 1080p HD, when I downconverted the video to a normal NTSC .dv file, it was still 20GB. How do you back up files that big? On separate DVDs? Footage flies on and off my HD so fast it would be incredibly inefficient. I was looking forward to getting a second external 1 TB hard drive when Leopard comes out so Time Machine can back up everything for me.

It's weird, all the files are there. But when I open them up, QT stalls and quits. But local files on my Mac's HD? There fine. It's really wierd.
