QuickTime 7.2/iTunes 7.3.1 now available
Fire up Software Update, kids, there are new versions of iTunes and QuickTime in town. iTunes 7.3.1 fixes an issue were some users of iTunes 7.3 couldn't access their music libraries anymore (a problem which Apple calls 'minor,' but seems kind of major to me).QuickTime 7.2, the far more interesting update of the two, has some security updates and:
- Support for full screen viewing in QuickTime Player
- Updates to the H.264 codec
- Numerous bug fixes
Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

It's about freaking time. I've never used hardly any of the QuickTime Pro features, but I gave apple $30 at least 3 or 4 times, just to watch silly quicktime movies in full screen. It's nice that everyone can do that now, but there was really no reason not to release this feature years ago.

Thanks a lot Apple. I paid for Quicktime solely because of your stupid full screen restriction. Way to take my money and run!

god dammit. this means I need to rebuy QT Pro. It says you need to plunk down another 30 in order to retain your 'pro' stature.

I had the library problem. This really annoys me, because to fix it I had to reimport my library, so I lost all my playcounts. Oh well.

No, you don't need to rebuy it if you already have Quicktime Pro 7. Only if you have

@#3
This only applies to versions previous to 7. Quicktime 7 Pro will not be affected and you should not have to buy another license. It would be silly of them to require a new license for a .1 upgrade.

"Updates to the H.264 codec"... could that *actually* *possible* mean high profile support? I surely hope so but I think I'm going to be wrong about that.
Oh well, Perian works great with AVC right now so I don't really care anymore.

Great. After updating Quicktime, Flash video is broken on Youtube etc. I get a Quicktime logo with a question mark instead of the embedded video.

Jeff, were you using QT to play flash videos in the past? My aunt recently had this problem. In the end I fixed it by going into the quicktime control panel and deselecting "Enable playback of Adobe Flash files" (or something like that-I don't have my Mac in front of me). I'm not sure which tab it's under (advanced, maybe?) but unchecking that box fixed my aunt's problem; maybe it'll help you, too.

Thanks, Simon. I wasn't using QT to play Flash, but I did check those preferences and it looks like QT decided to take it upon itself to be the Flash player after upgrading. I turned that off and all is well.

I had just been using a Quicksilver-activated shell script to go full screen. Worked like a charm, too.

hey Apple, thanks for catching up with Microsoft on this one. Now Quicktime is as good as WMP11

Yeah, with better support for industry-standards like H.264... oh wait...

So since the last itunes update (7.3), when you organize by artist, names beginning with numbers (like 311, 2pac, 50 cent, etc) are after the letter Z. anybody know why or how to fix this?

Quicktime 7.2 update affects Youtube. To resolve this issue, go to Quicktime Preferences to the ADVANCED settings and click off ENABLE FLASH.
Restart your computer and open Youtube and the Flash videos in Youtube should work. If it doesn't work the first time, please repeat process making sure the Enable Flash video setting is off in the Advanced Quicktime Preferences. Remember to restart Safari when doing this.

When you put the coverflow on full screen buttons that previously rendered poorly on MacBooks (Intel Core 2 Duo) now render perfectly. I don't use it a lot so maybe it has been fixed before? Anyway, I like it a lot more, looks more like it should be, so I think I'll use it sometimes...
I still don't know why the update also made iTunes "re-update" the entire library...

well the update corrupted every QuickTime file on my external HD. I lost every movie I've ever made, every film school project I ever worked on, and the trailer I'm currently editing. I cried.
