One of those ways, of course, is my iPod, and if you've been trying to figure out how to get your iTunes listens scrobbled into Last.fm, worry no more: Scrobblepod is here to save the day. It's a go-between for iTunes and Last.fm, and allows you to sync your iPod listens up with Last.fm before your iTunes listens get entered, ensuring everything gets listed just fine. Now, people will be able to see that you've listened to Mamma Mia whether it's on your iPod or your iTunes install.
Of course, I still haven't seen a way to track the other way I listen to my music-- I keep all my actual music files on my Powerbook, and share them directly to my desktop through iTunes. That way, I have access to my music no matter where I take my laptop. Unfortunately, neither iTunes or Last.fm treats listens through shared libraries as if they were "real" plays, so no matter how many times I listen to that Timberlake Justice remix, it'll never show up on my "Recently Played" list, or in Last.fm.
But anyway, my problems are complicated. If all you want to do is track your iPod listens into Last.fm, Scrobblepod's got you covered.

I've been using iScrobbler for as long as I can remember and it syncs music played from shared libraries as well as music played on iPods. The official last.fm client is horrible. The only thing it doesn't do (without a funky workaround) is support music played on iPhones.

I'm not sure how useful I find this because iScrobbler already scrobbles from your iPod (plug it in, go to Update iPod in the iScrobbler menubar). Secondly, I'm not sure what your issue is with scrobbling from itunes shares, it works for me!

Yeah I was going to say, how does this compare to iScrobbler? That's what I've been using.

FYI this is coming in the official Last.fm client. It's already in the 1.3.1.1 beta, anyway. Each time you sync your iPod, a dialog comes up in Last.fm with the tracks you've played while you were out, and you can check/uncheck the ones you'd like it to scrobble.
Pretty handy actually. Look for it in an official client soon.

adam beat me to it. you can see an ipod in the settings of the most recent update to the last client. you can't do anything with it yet, but obviously they're finally addressing ipod plays. thank God.

i scrobbler sinkss with last.fm based on recent plays so you will be able to sync with iphone or networked macs all you have to do is plug up your ipod after you listen to whatever to ivoke the sync. If you play a song before you sync all will be lost because last.fm uses the time stamps to keep people from cheating the system. Its not the best workaround but maybe someone will find this useful. I used it to log my ours of music played while playing oblivion on my xbox360 and it worked great.

Chalk up another happy iScrobbler user here, although this looks like it'll work well with iS and might solve the iScrobbler / iPod timestamp issue -- if you play a song in iTunes before you sync you lose any iPod scrobbles.

as previously mentioned, current Last.FM official client scrobbles iPod songs, can setup different iPods to scrobble to different accounts, really cool.

Unfortunately, the official Last.fm client doesn't work when you "Manually manage music and videos". Which is what I do...
From their help pages:
"To use the Last.fm client to scrobble tracks played on your iPod, you need to use iTunes and make sure that its "Manually manage music and videos" setting is disabled. You'll find this setting by clicking on your iPod in the left-hand sidebar, and then going to the Options section of the Summary page that shows up.
"Can I scrobble from an iPod that is manually managed?
There's currently no support for manually scrobbling from your iPod or scrobbling through syncing with other applications than iTunes, but watch this space for future updates."
Not sure if ScrobblePod or iScrobbler is any different?
