When reader Nomad send us a link to pictures of his new iPhone bluetooth headset, we thought, "Eh, it's just a headset in a box. How cool can it be?"Pretty cool.
It's packaged in a black, minimalist box, as expected. Inside is the headset itself, a combo dock (accommodates the iPhone and headset) with USB cable and a travel cable for the headset only.
Nomad notes that when both the iPhone and headset are connected to the dock, the iPhone's display depicts the headset, as well as its current charge. Pretty nice. When connected to the stand-alone cable, the headset uses a magsafe connector.
Leave it to Apple to make the act of charging a headset elegant.

Very nice. I am wondering about sound quality. I just bought an Aliph Jawbone last week and it's pretty good, but HUGE and bulky. The sound quality on both ends is really good though but it might be going back in exchange for one of these if the call quality is as good as I hope.
Anyone have any 'seat time' with this headset yet?

Ditto. I love the Jawbone - it sounds the best, and it's nice that people can hear me clearly whether I'm at my desk or in the server room. Unfortunately, none of the provided ear buds and clips/loops fit me perfectly; the thing always feels like it's about to fall out. And I have to futz with the thing every few minutes to maintai proper contact with the little cheek sensor.

Anyone know if you can listen to the iPod via the bluetooth headset? I used an old Sony Ericsson one, and once it paired with the phone it didn't seem like it.

Donald I am in the same exact boat as you. I love the Jawbone BUT it does not stay in my ear well and I keep having to hold it to stay in place. And because of it's weight, if I move too much around, it will actually move around to the point of it just dangling on my ear and not even be usable. The BEST fitting bluetooth headset I have ever used is the Plantronics 600 series with the ear loop attached. I am hoping Apple's solution fits nicely and sounds as good as the Jawbone. The Plantronics product has a lot of static and I do not recommend them at all. This covers the 640, 645 and the 655 and all are the same in terms of static.

Yes, I am anxious to hear how this thing fits/performs...
I really love the idea of the ONE dock for both devices, I was really bad about plugging in my other BlueTooth headsets in the past and as a result didn't use them as much as I would have liked, but this seems like the solution that would allow me to keep it charged and ready. So Simple, So Great Looking...
But if it is uncomfortable and I can't use it in the streets of New York, or in semi-loud places, it is almost useless to me...

I'm sure the sound quality and the mic quality are sufficient. What I'm curious about is the actual earpiece. It's just a little bud that you shove into your ear, and I'm not so sure it'll A) Stay in your ear and B) Actually retain the angle you position it at.

Why there's just one headset instead of two? Hearing music wirelessly would be simply great!

Okay, so I accidentally discovered one of these at a local store in San Diego. Got it today. There were about three store clerks at the Apple Store that had no idea it was in stock and were quite jealous I got the last one.
First impression: this sucker is small and fits really well in your ear. I wear glasses and was especially eager to not need any kind of wrap around headset. Sound quality seems good. Better than my previous Samsung headset. The volume is really loud, but I noticed some scratchiness in the sound when I had the iPhone in my pocket and outside in the wind.
All in all, I really like it because of the size. Feels really solid, but its about the size of my pinky.
ONE MAJOR PROBLEM: I can't seem to listen to my voicemail through the headset. Weird?

Two more things to add:
Yes, you can in fact use the headset to hear voicemails but not music. In the voicemail folder, there is a new sub-folder at the top that lets you toggle between headset, speaker, and phone.
The Magsafe-style connector on the headset is extremely handy on both the dock and travel cable.
