FlickIM: A nice AIM solution for iPhone
Until Apple releases "iChat Mobile," developers will compete to produce the IM solution for the iPhone. So far, we've considered JiveTalk and Meebo. The former was definitely better than the latter, but neither was perfect. Today, we're looking at FlickIM. FlickIM supports AIM only, which is a drawback (JiveTalk allows simultaneous connections to AIM, MSN, Yahoo!, GoogleTalk, ICQ, and Jabber), but has the nicest UI of the three. Simple "chat balloon" icons keep tabs on multiple conversations, and your contact list is displayed as a dial selection tool.
I did notice one oddity: After I thought I had logged out, iChat on my Mac complained that I was logged in at two locations.
Again, it's not perfect, but it's still nice.

Do any of these IM clients offer SSL? I'm not comfortable arranging illegal drug drops of the coast of Miami without SSL. I'm sure you understand.

Or you can just set AIM up to forward messages while you're not at your computer to IM. $10/mo adds 15000 IM messages. By far the easiest method. And Leonard, I have found that if you go up the coast a littl bit and have your drugs dropped off in Ft Lauderdale, I have found there are far fewer DEA agents around

I am happy using the AIM - SMS feature. It works great for me, as I can log in and out via SMS as well as see all my buddies that are online. Yahoo also allow me to setup SMS so my contacts can sent me messages, only issue with Yahoo is that it shows me as idle all the time, but once my buddies know that, it is not an issue. Plus it saves on battery life since having a chat app running all the time sucks down battery life, just as it did on my Treo's and can prevent calls from coming in depending on when/how the chat app is connecting to the network.

i guess you dont own an iPhone as i do Gary, so let me clue you in... When using this program, nothing happens to your calling abilities, especially over wi-fi. I am able to make calls and use FlickIM while on the phone. Also, your treo is crap, as i had one before switching to an iPhone...

Trick to disconnect all open AIM sessions except one:
- make a new chat with "aolsystemmsg" (cmd+shift+n in iChat).
- say "1" (the number one, without quotes).
AOL will disconnect all other logged in sessions.

@Ben
$10/month will get you 1500 text messages- not 15,000

Dela G,
I know all about how crappy Treo's are as I have owned serveral. And yes if you used this app over wi-fi you will never miss a call. However GSM, while not as bad as CDMA can miss a call depending on when the data is accessing the network. Using AIM - SMS I get all my messages and never have to worry about missing a call or keeping the safari window open. Oh and I do have a iphone since the day they were released.
