Apple posts Airport update
Last week many, many of you reported problems with wifi since the OS X 10.4.10 update. Fortunately, Apple appears to have heard your cries of anguish and has released the Airport Extreme Update 2007-4. Apple doesn't say much about what the update contains but does say it "is recommended for all Intel-based MacBook, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini computers and improves the reliability of AirPort connections."So, for those of you who had problems, did this fix it?
Thanks, Kender!

I have an iBook G4 and am running 10.4.10, and like a lot of others I keep losing my wi-fi connection when at home, especially after my machine goes to sleep but not only then. The problem is always fixed either right away or within about 10 seconds when I turn Airport off and back on, but it would be nice not to have to keep doing this! My wife has the same problem, though perhaps not as often; she has a MacBook that's just a few weeks old. We have a Belkin router. I haven't been able to check because our Windows laptop needs a security update before we can run the wireless on it, but I'm assuming the problem is with Airport and not the router.
I'm also having problems with wireless when at work. I can connect to the VPN just fine, but then nothing happens when I try to surf anywhere, unless I enter an actual (numerical) domain name.
I don't know if these two problems have anything to do with each other.
The only updates I see in Software Update that I haven't installed are to iTunes and something else not related to Airport.
Did not solve my problem, and added more. Was having wi-fi dropouts constantly, and kernal panics, while running on battery.
After the Airport Extreme Update 2007-004, I now have dropouts while running on AC power too.
Also, since the update my connection sometimes slows down to the point of being unusable...regarding pages loading, etc. This happens with Firefox or Safari, wireless or plugged into wall.
This was not happening before.
So far, however, no kernal panics.
MBP C2D 2.16GHz: after two days of working Wifi (and my "Apple fixed it!"), the signal gets lost again. I mean, it can't be grabbed at all. The MBP just fails to attach to the signal, the airport icon goes 100%, then 50%, then 0%, 100%, 0%, 50%...
Good: no more kernel panics (which was a shame for Apple as a OS vendor, though, to crash the machine on a module!).
Bad: I'm wired. I could as well have bought an iMac.
I have a MacBook and my AirPort was working great before the update. Now I have to reset it about 15 times a day. It is really pissing me off.

I had a meltdown two days ago, but it turned out to be a new wireless router in the neighborhood operating on the same channel. Changing the channel on my router fixed that problem.

Twice, I got a kernel panic from it.
I wasn't having too many problems to begin with, and this update doesn't seem to have broken anything. That's all I can hope for!
For those people with Linksys routers, especially the very popular WRT54G series... Are you using the Linksys firmware? Because I had lots of problems when I did, but then I switched to DD-WRT (free firmware) and that has been much more stable and consistent for me. Plus, I can turn the power up on the transmitter and get much better coverage in my house!
Ok well I installed the update and still seem to have problems... iChat will run okay with the WiFi on, but Safari won't load the page. To fix this I have to walk across my house and restart the Linksys router... Anyone know what I could do to fix this? I have a 1.83Ghz Mac mini, and currently have a 50' eithernet cable running across my house to the internet modem.
Thanks.
