Cheap headphone adapter for iPhone
The iPhone headphone jack with its super narrow opening is so recessed that most people simply can't use their personal headphones. The jack is too narrow, their plugs won't fit. Fortunately, Derek K. Miller has found a solution. The iPod Shuffle Sports Case ships with an adapter cable with an extra-thin plug. If you pop over to ebay and search for iPod shuffle sports case. If you're willing to wait for the right auction, you can likely pick up an adapter for just a few dollars.
Thanks Miaz

August 15 2007 at 5:07 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI have no idea what "beaten dog" means, Big Ben, but I accept that it is fair for readers to let the site know their opinion of the article mix.
However, that is a comment about the site, not a particular article, and it says above the comment form, "Please keep comments relevant to this entry". There is a method to note an opinion of the site as a whole - under "Resources" in the link list, you can contact the TUAW folks.
You are polite, Big Ben, which sets you apart from most of the iPhone whingers, who are impolite and on occasion incredibly rude. And whilst the sense of entitlement may not be your motivation, it is for most. The complainers are not requesting less iPhone news, they are unequivocally demanding it! Demands only come from a sense of entitlement.
I must re-iterate the sense of craziness I have toward the notion that we're missing out on other Apple news because of the iPhone. You said, "Would TUAW be posting only those non-iPhone items we see now?" which assumes, without support, that there is other non-iPhone items to post. Can you give any examples of such news that TUAW has missed?
And your argument about time only makes sense in the situation where the bloggers are at absolute maximum output, because if they have not spent every single spare blogging-time second, then that means that they DO have time to be posting non-iPhone news (if it was there).
I submit that it is crazy to assume that all the bloggers are currently spending every possible second they can on it, and that there MUST be more non-iPhone news that we're missing.
I further submit that in the current climate, the TUAW bloggers would be keen to appease the iPhone-haters, and would be actively looking for Mac news to post.
I finally submit that not all the TUAW bloggers are iPhone fans, so why wouldn't they be posting the Mac news that is supposedly out there that we're missing?
Careful - I saw one eBay seller who had several of these cases, and in the text description, the seller states, "Note - case and strap only". What that little caveat means is, no adaptor cable.
The same seller is also selling (separately) "iPhone headset adapters" - gee, I wonder where they came from? Worse, he labels them as "OEM" iPhone headset adapters!
Yeah, they're OEM, but that OEM is expecting them to only be sold as part of the iPod Sports Case package, not separately.
The seller does say that his Sports cases are "brand new, factory sealed" which is clearly not the case since he has removed the audio adaptor (it isn't shown in the photos) to sell separately.
I am going to advise eBay of this seller's activities. It is unacceptable to claim something is "factory sealed" when it is not. It is unethical to sell these packages which most purchasers would think comes with the cable, since the original package does.
VanillaSpice, you make the beaten dog argument quite nicely. It is not a sense of entitlement that motivates most people to complain about changes in blogs they like.
Here's the justification: I started reading TUAW because it had articles I liked. Mixed in were posts I didn't like, but the former outweighed the latter. TUAW has changed recently, in that a huge number of posts are about something that doesn't matter to me. As an afficionado of the blog, it makes sense to bring to the bloggers' attention that the site is no longer as useful as I once found it.
Nor is it "crazy" to think that iPhone posts are supplanting Mac or iPod posts. Imagine if the iPhone were not here. Would TUAW be posting only those non-iPhone items we see now? I submit that it would not, and that we would be getting other news.
I'm pretty sure TUAW is not the full-time gig for any of these bloggers. They likely have a determined amount of time and/or posts to contribute each week. Each time a blogger posts about iPhone, assuming he/she meets his/her limit on posts for that week, it means something else may have been put off or nixed.
It's fine for folks to like the iPhone posts and to let TUAW know about it. I'm just trying to remind those in charge that to some, the iPhone wave is starting to make some of us want to get out of the water.
But if everyone just walked away as soon as something changed, nothing would ever get better. Just doing my part.
I think it is crazy to assume that the iPhone articles are delaying or preventing the posting of Mac or general Apple news, or "drowning it out". It isn't the case that there is Mac news to report but no-one is doing so because they're talking about the iPhone. The simple fact is that there is no Mac news to post at the moment. It isn't being "skipped over".
In response to the generic iPhone-hate, bloody 'eck, not every article is of interest to everyone! How useless would this place be if I said "Stop posting GtD stuff" on every related article, and the iPod haters continually said "Stop posting iPod articles" and the iPod lovers continually said "Stop posting Mac articles".
And hey, I own a desktop Mac, I don't own an iBook or MacBook, so why don't I go to every article that talks about portable Macs and say, "This isn't of relevance to everyone! Stop posting articles like this! I remember when TUAW used to be about desktop Macs, now all these articles about portable Macs are drowning out the stuff I care about!"
You are NOT ENTITLED to a specific number of relevant-to-you posts per day. No such guarantee was ever made. You do not pay for this service and you are free to leave at any time you wish. If you cannot be appreciative of what you do get, and instead selfishly complain when others are getting what they want, then please leave, and good riddance. We don't need you here. We don't want you here.
@21 yeah but that one us fugly and huge and hard to get hold of. It's about as long as the phone is wide.

The iphone-free feed isn't working. It's not that we hate the iPhone, it's just that we want TUAW to be like it was pre-iPhone days--relevant to Mac users.
Until this site recognizes that need, I'm going to get my information from other places where scrolling through things isn't so cumbersome.
BTW, the regular feed doesn't seem to be working today either.
So Apple has been reduced to nothing but a phone? It's all phone? Wow. I remember back in the good old days (earlier this week) when Apple was simply mostly phone.

Still, it's a breath of fresh air (just look at the tag count in the right column: considering the relative youth of the product, it's weighted average in posts is pretty high)
I used the regular url just to check if something is mentioned about the sanitized feed being kaputt.
