Apple eager to let you know about iLife '08

Apple, it would seem, is eager to let you know about iLife '08. Several readers have emailed us, and I just experienced for myself, this lovely message that greats you when you fire up an app from iLife '06. I launched iPhoto 6 to make sure a feature I was blogging about wasn't in it (look for that iPhoto '08 post in a little bit) and I was greeted with the above message.
At least you can turn it off, which is nice of Apple.

And imagine how happy I am to have purchased a Mac Book Pro for $2500 on Sunday only to see this released Tuesday with no upgrade concession for me.
Welcome to Apple-dom.
frosty, if you feel like downloading what may be nine gigabytes, then maybe you had a sense of how large it gets. It's not a simple quarter GB download like some programs.

I'm happy to pay the upgrade price even though I plan to upgrade to Leopard as soon as possible (which will presumably include iLife 08). But hey, I have extra computers I'm not upgrading so fast, so I can use the extra license.
But if I have to get physical media, I'll wait until I can drop by the Apple store, which will be weeks from now.
Weird.
It didn't pop up for iPhoto, iMovie, or GarageBand. It didn't show up until I opened up iWeb. Odd.

August 08 2007 at 2:59 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI'd just like to point out to all my fellow starving students, if you get 4 friends to split a family pack with you, it only costs you 20 dollars each, which is a totally reasonable price in my opinion.

So: nothing new, just a new version number and new text, but the same advertising technique.
Is it just me, or does this seem like a very Microsoft-ish thing to do? Admittedly I didn't use iLife all that often when I had it, but I can't remember any pop-ups like this when a new version was released. Something seems different about Apple lately.
August 08 2007 at 12:50 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThey probably think that is the upgrade price. Every Mac has included iLife for several years now, so you are very unlikely to be buying a Mac without iLife.
iPhoto is the only one that I use regularly, so I'll probably pass on this for now.
come on apple share the wealth. Up grade prices not full price.
