iLife '08 guided tour

I'm really digging these new guided tour videos that Apple seems to be fond of. First it was a series for the iPhone, and now we have a Guided Tour of iLife '08. You can watch it online or download it to your machine (and watch it full screen). The 20 minute video gives you the highlights of the iLife suite and tries to convince you it is worth $80, but you're reading TUAW so I am guessing that you already bought it.

Thanks, Libb.

Need instruction book NOW for iMovie '08! Apple should not release a new system without proper support. I have been pleased with '04 but can't figure the new one out. I have a new iMac which I would like to downgrade to '04.

Well I must say I was excited as well and never thought this would a backword step. iMovie has become a piece of software, as Steve Jobs indicates. that is good for domestic video but little else. All that exportability and you can't export direct to Garageband. As a teacher I will be continuing with iLife 06, a program that allows the teaching of the principles of viedo editing and provides clear links to professional end programs.

I am not sure if I dare look at the rest of 08.

where did you download it from? I want to get it, but no chance of getting to an apple store, or any store for the next few days

I was excited about iLife 8 until I was bummed out. My disappointment began when I learned that the new iMovie is 100% incompatible with my existing iMove projects and clips. There is absolutely no migration path to the new iMovie. Instead, the alledgedly "brilliant" FinalCut engineer who wanted to cut videos of his vacation in under 30 minutes and ended up "inventing" this new app has caused the rest of us to re-do many hours of work. What a maroon!

Furthermore, all of the money I spent at the Apple Store investing in Slick! plug-in packages for iMovie is now officially wasted. Not only are projects not migrating, but Apple has decided to leave behind all of the iMovie plug-ins as well. There is no plug-in support at all! Every one of my titling sequences, all my special effects I use, all my favorite transitions... worthless and unusable.

Every time I try to download the Large version, I end up getting the notice "Decompression failed". It appears that it tries to open it before it is entirely downloaded. Anyone else having that problem?

I really wish you could get a demo version of this - I don't mind shelling out 80 bucks but only if its a significant upgrade... I guess until then I'll be waiting for the first .dmg torrent.
