iWork '08

Today's been a real active refresh day. Not only did we get iLife '08, but iWork '08 debuted as well. iWork '08 contains Keynote, the presentation app, and Pages, the word processing program that also lets you perform basic layout tasks. The big news, though, is the new spreadsheet app, Numbers. Numbers offers a light version of non-microsoftish-Excel, much as Keynote and Pages do for Powerpoint and Word. Good news for everyone who was saddened at the Office '08 delayed release.

When I first saw Numbers I immediately thought about an old Lotus spreadsheet app that never caught on called Improv. Reading about it on Wikipedia, I see that Steve Jobs himself had a hand in its development back when he was with NeXT. Interesting.

Anyone know what the System Requirements are? Apple hasn't upgraded the iWork SR page yet (6pm, 8/07). They still list Srs for iWork 06.

I am so fired-up about iWork 08.

Thank you KAU for the link to the trial. I purchased iWork 08 immediately, but being able to try it while I wait for shipping is awesome.

I hope this is the MSOffice killer we have all been waiting for...

Unfortunately, though, when I fired up Keynote today and it asked if I wanted to upgrade, it sent me to

which gives a 404 error. Anyone know anything about the upgrade options?

I'm not trying to be a troll... But I think apple should port these programs to windows. They have the toolkit in place with safari and itunes... Do you think these programs are next?

The could even offer free licenses for awile to generate market penetration.

They may not have as many features as Office, but the features they do have work perfectly and the way you want them to.

My question is, is Numbers going to support error bars on charts?

That single issue is the reason why I can't use the whole of iWork - error bars are necessary for scientific applications and presentations.

I began using iWork '06 at work a few weeks ago. Everyone said I was "too good at my job". Wait 'til they see what I can do with Numbers!
