Attention folks who like a little Windows with their Macs, Apple has just updated the
Boot Camp beta to 1.4. Boot Camp, you will recall, is Apple's utility that allows you to repartition your Mac's hard drive and dual boot Windows and OS X. New in this release (quoting Apple's website here):
- Support for the MacBook Pro's backlight keyboard
- Apple Remote Pairing
- Updated graphics drivers (Windows loves drivers)
- Improved Boot Camp driver install, improved international keyboard support
- and more!
Boot Camp 1.4 beta requires OS X 10.4.6 or later and the latest firmware for your Mac. It is free, and it is also a beta so be warned.
Thanks, Paul.

repartiction.
Anyway, I like these updates for Boot Camp. Can't wait for Leopard's integration.

Sorry about that, MXSix. Overlooked that typo in the rush to post this. Thanks!

I wish "improved Boot Camp driver install" meant I could download them from Apple's website instead of having to burn a CD each time.

Is anyone having problems with the keyboard illumination? after using it in windows, it won't turn off in osx. I've pressing all the buttons and going into the system prefs, but the keyboard light won't dim or turn off...

You dont need to burn a CD. There's a menu option in the boot camp applet to write it to the disk.

Can anyone tell me if there is now the ability to use the double-tap right mouse click in Windows...?

Steven: I turn the tap=click functionality off on every laptop I have an account on - it's quite good while you remember it's there but stop thinking about it and you do all sorts of crazy things, it's infuriating.
That said, the gesture you describe has an equivalent gesture for button-only users - place two fingers on the pad and click the button with a third - and is, and always has, been the only way to right click under Windows on a Mac laptop. I tend to use a bluetooth Mighty Mouse though - which works perfectly under both XP and Vista.
Also, has anyone but me noticed that Boot Camp is getting absolutely ridiculously huge - on my MacBook, I had to wipe XP and make a 20 gig partition for Vista, which leaves me with a 36 gig Mac partition that's struggling to cope (less than a gig free atm!)

Sam, Steven:
From http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303575:
"Tip: To perform a right-click action, hold the right Command key while tapping the trackpad button."
Also, I don't think Boot Camp is responsible for the sizes of your partitions.. ;)

It's a long story but I'm great difficulty in getting hold of Boot Camp 1.4 now that Apple have pulled the plug as a free download. I'm loathed to fork out £85 to buy it as part od Leopard. Does anyone out there have a copy I can have - I'll be eternally grateful.
