iWeb 2.0.1

The new app smell has hardly left iWeb '08 and already Software Update brings a dot rev for it. iWeb 2.0.1 'addresses issues with upgrading and publishing iWeb 1.x websites.' Rather terse, as most of the recent Apple update descriptions have been lately.

If you've been having trouble with iWeb 1.x websites in iWeb '08, this update is for you. Download here or through Software Update.

Thanks, Robert.

I too have had difficulty with published sites with iWeb 2.0.1. When published, there are many "bugs" ... such as links that don't work, including the roll-over features.
HOWEVER, I found that when I view the site using FIREFOX, it works fine. It seems that the problem may lie with SAFARI. (I have the latest Safari by the way ... the beta 3).
Any comments would be appreciated!

I've also found some weird behaviour: I can upload photos from iphoto to the .Mac web gallery, but only if iWeb isn't running! As soon as I run iWeb (just run the app, don't upload anything) the iphoto upload fails. If I then close iWeb, the iPhoto upload works again.

Anyone else find this? Really bad... Very disappointing...

iWeb08 crashes immediately after hitting the Update button when it first comes up. I bought iLife 08 specifically for the new iMovie, iWeb, and iPhoto.
I have a PowerMac dual-G4 1.42ghz FW800, 2GB RAM, 2TB disk, and the new iMovie will not even install on it (first Mac program to do that to me). The iWeb crash log says this: **********

Host Name: PMacG4
Date/Time: 2007-08-31 08:48:21.763 -0400
OS Version: 10.4.10 (Build 8R218)
Report Version: 4

Command: iWeb
Path: /Applications/iWeb.app/Contents/MacOS/iWeb
Parent: WindowServer [134]

Version: 2.0.1 (200)
Build Version: 7
Project Name: iWeb
Source Version: 3640000

PID: 2140
Thread: Unknown

Link (dyld) error:

Symbol not found: _compressBound
Referenced from: /Applications/iWeb.app/Contents/MacOS/iWeb
Expected in: /usr/lib/libz.1.dylib

Real, real bad.

I upgraded to iWeb 08 + downloaded the 2.0.1 patch - but cannot publish my site at all. It's not working for me.

Glad I've held off on purchasing this. I was already miffed about iMovie and wasn't impressed with iPhoto. I don't use Garageband so iWeb was the one thing I thought perhaps I might find the enhancement useful. Maybe I'll just update my Rapidweaver and wait another 2 years until next time.

ilife was always something to brag about and demonstrate alot more value to buying a Mac for the price they sell for. This version seems to certainly be hurting that argument.

And what were they doing with iLife code for the last year and a half???

iWeb '08 has some great ideas, but this program was absolutely nowhere near ready to be released. Not only does it crash and hog memory like its infected with the worst worm ever made, most of the new features are spotty. Things disappear when doing a layout never to come back.

This was a half-(deleted) release.

Uh, no, this update doesn't fix a thing. iWeb '08 sites still have trouble rendering in IE. Images are showing up shotty, even in Safari. Still issues with multiple domains. Etc. Etc.

They need a full dot update on this puppy, it's still not usable!

I reliably get a crash every time I try to export an iWeb project to a folder for the _second_ time. It works fine the first time, but if you do it again, it crashes. Very annoying!

I hope this fixes my problem. I upgraded my site to 2.0 and proceeded to change the theme. I spent hours tweaking it, adding all the new bells and whistles. I saved and closed. When I opened it the next day to publish it, almost everything was gone. When I say gone, I mean all the pages I created were there but the content had been deleted. Including elements of the theme itself. I tried to fix it 3 times but it just kept doing it over and over.
Lucky for me I backed up my domain file before the upgrade. I reopened the original iWeb 1.x domain file and let iWeb 2.0 do its upgrade thing. I then published it to .Mac. So far so good. I have not changed the theme or added any new elements. I'll try that tonight and see how it goes after the 2.0.1 upgrade.

@koen

Some people who have multiple Macs might be on limiting internet plans. Personally I'm on a 12GB "unlimited" plan. Downloading say, three 100MB updates can be really daunting. Downloading one ~150MB update and sharing it around is much easier.

Hope that clears things up.
