While I wasn't exactly dying without Keyword Manager in iPhoto '08 just yet, thanks to its new built-in keyword abilities, I am nonetheless relieved to see that my favorite iPhoto keyword plug-in for power users has just been updated for the latest version. While the major new feature in Keyword Manager v1.3 is of course iPhoto '08 compatibility, I have noticed what I believe is a new, dedicated Keyword Manager button added to the controls in the lower left of the iPhoto window (or has that been there all along? I've always just used the keyboard shortcut to invoke it so I never looked down there). Also on the new features list is slightly better performance when selecting many photos, an updated UI for the Keyword Manager windows to match iPhoto '08's new Adjust palette UI, and updates to the Danish translation of the plug-in. It is also worth noting that Keyword Manager still works with iPhoto '06 as well.
A demo is available from Bullstorm Software, while a license costs $19 USD (or €19).

Can someone please post something about how to keyword multiple photos all at once in iPhoto '08??? I have been using Keyword Assistant forever and now that it has been EOL'd I am lost... I have *a lot* of keywords so the ability to just type them in was great... am I missing something?? Thanks!

CMD-K (Window: Show Keywords) - select your photos, click on a keyword in the keyword window.
The kayword button has been in iPhoto since the beginning, but for me it disappeared in iPhoto'08

@ Eric,
while iPhoto 6 could store 250,000 images you certainly have a lot more than the average person with 25,000.
I suggest trying out iPhoto '08's Events to increase the speed--and efficiency--when searching. Or maybe even trying out Aperature (it's a free download) to see how it handles so many photos.

It would be nice to see some benchmarks for various iPhoto library sizes.

@ Leonard
Thanks for your reply! I know about aperture, but i really like the 'lightweight' style of iphoto, the modern and consistent look and the integration into other apps, that's why i'd really love to stick with iphoto. the best performing tool for this task is adobe bridge cs3 in my mind, but it is totally different from iphoto. pc users have picasa which is really fast and nice.
maybe i'll look into tools for handling more iphoto libraries (like: http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/, but it's not working with 08 yet), as i don't need all my photos at once all the time.
by the way: i'm using events already. i have 650 events. :) the real and only problem is that the iphoto freezes for several seconds quite often, which leads me to the conclusion that it's not made for libs like mine.

@Eric: I write a post the other week that delved into the new tools iPhoto '08 provides for tagging/keywording:
http://www.tuaw.com/2007/08/08/iphoto-08-does-tagging-right/
You can select multiple photos and use the Quick Group feature to tag them all at once, or simply drag and drop keywords from that panel onto one photo to tag them all as such.
This is why I still prefer this Keyword Manager app, as it seems more intuitive to me. You can select one or hundreds of photos, type into the keyword assigner pane with auto-completion and tag everything at once.
