Snapz Pro X 2.1.1 is available
Earlier today, Ambrosia released version 2.1.1 of their popular screen capture tool (we've written about Snapz Pro X several times). For the unfamiliar: Snapz Pro X lets you capture what you're doing on your Mac's screen - or just a portion thereof - as a Quicktime movie. It's a fantastic way to make screencasts, and also snags audio and still images.Version 2.1.1 brings a number of changes, including:
- Improved registration experience
- Several squashed bugs, including the blank frames at the end of some movies and garbled video capture on older, nVidia-equipped Macs
- Improved performance for audio captures
A single license will cost you $69US. It's universal and requires Mac OS 10.3.9 or later.

When it comes to screen shots, you will all be saying Sayonara to IShowYou and Snapz Pro in favor of about to be released Skitch! None if the other applications offer the versatility of this incredible tool.

I'm not talking about your casual "I take a screenshot once in awhile" guys. For those of us that do screenshots everyday there is no equal out there. So for those who don't like the video features in Snapz, buy IShowU and if you need a professional screenshot utility then buy Snapz (with or without video)
August 23 2007 at 5:14 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyiShowU is fine for video captures, but it's not for doing static screen caps...which is where Snapz Pro X shines. I use Snapz Pro X all the time for doing screen caps of web pages. It has an auto-scroll feature that captures long scrolling websites as a single image. It has functionality well beyond the built-in OS X screen capture. So, comparing it to iShowU is really comparing apples and oranges.

Put this in Terminal app:
#START
rm -rf ~/Library/Snapz Pro X/
rm -rf ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Snapz Pro X.crash.log
rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/.DS_Store
rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/.GlobalPreferences.*.plist
rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.ambrosiasw.snapz.plist
rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/Snapz Pro X License
rm -rf /Library/Receipts/AmbrosiaAudioSupport.pkg
rm -rf /Library/Receipts/Snapz Pro X Application.pkg
rm -rf /Library/Receipts/Snapz Pro X * Installer.pkg
exit
#END
This is for uninstalling it properly :)
I also agree.. IshowU is far superior, lighter and a lot cheaper. Snapz is truly a rip off..

August 23 2007 at 4:19 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyLucky that I have read your comments. My trial copy is near its end and I share with your comments about the time it takes to save, especially when multi-pass is selected. Having said that, I do find the resulting movies of quite good quality. But anyways, I will go to get a trial of iShowU. So far, besides the slow rendering, the price is the major deterrent for me to purchase the full product. Especially after I have only just recently purchased both the family pack of iLife'08 and iWorks'08.
August 23 2007 at 4:09 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI have to say, iShowU is a much better product than Snapz Pro, and it's kind of shameful that Snapz is making such minor improvments for a slow application & still chargins so much. For years Snapz was the best at what it did, but it was still not a very good product. Very slow at saving video, and many times the save would fail, leaving a useless .mv file.
iShowU is a much, much, much faster application, and though younger seems to be a much more mature, robust, finished application. In addition to the core functionality of screen capture that Snapz has, it has excellent support for multiple presets with different capture & conversion settings and when you're finished recording, you get your movie instantly (unlike Snapz where you sit around for 5 minutes waiting to see if your movie rendered correctly.)
Snapz does capture static pics (which iShowU does not) but I never found Snapz to be much more useful than the standard Apple screen capture key commands.
Anyway, I guess I'm just one more guy thumbing my nose at stodgy old Snapz. Ambrosia seriously needs to get back on their game with that application.
Speaking of "improved registration experience," NOBODY CARES ABOUT IMPROVED REGISTRATION EXPERIENCE. Seriously, you're past version TWO of your software, and you STILL have to add improvements to your freakin' "registration experience"?

What a rip-off.
