Fake loading screens for iPhone
There are tons of iPhone wallpapers out there by now, but this set is extra special-- it's a set of satirical wallpapers, designed, says Josh, to "show off the true power of the iPhone" by replacing the standard loading screen with one of your own. Did you know your iPhone could attract total strangers, create Universal Healthcare, or even resolve global warming? It can-- just as soon as the loading bar completes.I think my favorite is the one shown here, though. Sure, since it's just a picture, you could say that the bar will never finish, so the iPhone will never be obsolete. But as one of the people waiting for v2.0 to buy an iPhone, seeing the bar past halfway at least inspires a little hope that we're almost there.
Thanks, Josh!

As someone waiting for v2.0 to buy an iPhone, you shouldn't be blogging about v1.0 - if your goal is to provide meaningful commentary. For better or for worse this piece doesn't have much room for adding that kind of value, however. But if you don't layeth down thy ducats, your role in the conversation is dubious.

These wallpapers are great! Especially the first one. I was playing around with a friend's iPhone on Friday when this guy who neither of us knew came over started asking questions about it and started playing with it. He had it for a while too (my fault for asking him to see it in the first place). I was thinking hmmpf... when I do get one I don't know if I want total strangers pawing my purchase. That's what AT&T is for... It was funny how much attention is was attracting being passed around from hand to hand I felt bad for asking him to pull it out in the first place. I actually showed it to this one guy (he thought it was mine at first) who pulled out this blackberry or whatever it was as if there was any real comparison. None of us gave it a second glance. Lets face it when an iPhone is in the room other cellphone just don't get looked at or pawed or get any ooohs and awe, wows or its soooo cute I want one from the ladies :-) I sent the link to my friend.

Almost there? Hah! It JUST came out! You're nowhere near that, sorry to say. What's wrong with the first one. I mean, I understand the general concept of waiting for a second of version of something, to when all the kinks are worked out, but the iPhone has already proven itself fairly kinkless! I don't know why you want to wait around when the iPhone is already here. Sure, there'll be a better one in maybe 3 years. But this is the best there is right now. In 3 years when a new one comes out (and I don't really believe I'm exaggerating much with that figure) you will say, I'll wait for the one after that, it will be even better. This is how technology works.

now if only i could make it display these instead of the apple logo startup and have the little bar go from one end to the other end, that would really get people laughing!

Jt Hollister; The iPhone had a very good start, but that's mostly from the UI perspective. There's still significant stuff that's needed. From what I hear, there's no copy and paste, no carbon copy or send to multiple in the email client. There's no way to sync the notes. At least these all can be fixed with a software update, but Apple's completely silent on whether or not they even care to add this stuff.
While I think Apple's statements on 3G are generally valid, but mainly because of the carrier they chose and the current chips being a little large and power hungry. I don't think that deficiency will last that long, and once 3G support is there, then the first phone will be considered woefully obsolete by anyone that's not constantly bathed in a WiFi signal.
I really doubt that it will be three years before there's a notable update. It may be three years before a major design change, but most iPod designs last an average of a little over a year before being tweaked, with the 5th/5.5 gen being the longest between design changes.

JeffDM - you CAN CC people, and you CAN email to multiple clients. Another cool thing, is if you get a mass email, and click on a person's email address, it asks you if you want to add that address to an existing contact or create a new contact. Freaking cool.
That said, the only thing I can think of that needs adding in mail is all on Gmail's side of things. Their support of the iPhone started with the easy setup and basically ended there. Because of their "threads" system which work great on their site, every email I sent out comes back to me on the iPhone as a new email in my inbox. Kind of annoying, if you like that inbox number to be 0.

If by "V2.0" the wait is for memory,
then it's not dubious at all.
Toshiba just announced 32GB NAND.
I can't wait for 16GB or 32GB iPhone.

10 pixels down would place the icon directly in the vertical center of the "slide to unlock" screen. Since that's currently the place most will see the wallpaper (other than viewing it in the Photo library), I usually stick to that when creating my images.

I love these - I'm rocking "becoming obsolete" because just like Jt Hollister I understand that there will always be something better if I wait. But this phone has nearly every feature that I've been wanting in a phone, and I can actually USE all of them.
