MacBU introduces the "Art of Office"
I just recently got through questioning the future of Office for the Mac and the MacBU and now the guys have Microsoft has introduced an interesting new website called "Art of Office." It's a kind of portal designed to allow Office users to share documents demonstrating various cools ideas and and techniques for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. They have a daily showcase of "most useful" and "most artistic" documents which users are invited to upload plus an Artists section. So if you're a real Office jockey, or just looking for some neat ideas, Art of Office is probably worth a look.[via MacNN]

If the design of the new Office for Mac is going to be based on the design of that internet site, I might actually even like it! The site is nothing special, but I like it's design a lot.
Wonder if it took 2 years for Microsoft's MacBU to come out with that or if they are actually also working on the new version of office...

I have to wonder what the point is, given that MacBU's bread and butter is supposedly interop with Office/Windows users.
This smacks of “crap, Apple have released iWork 08 and it looks *cool*, we need to pretend Office can be too!”.

Seems pretty silly to me, is this supposed to make Office able to compete with iWork?
I don't love iWork's word processing, but then again, I'm launching Word less and less as the days go by. It just feels wrong- like opening a Classic app.

Trying to push the stereotype that all Mac users are artists? Smooth.

Great! So that's where I'm supposed to upload my cool new MS Office malware document. Must be doing this quick though, since macro support is going to be dropped when MS finally releases its next version of Office for Mac. But then, there's Windows guys browsing that site too.
What an opportunity!

I don't care about anything the MacBU does until they release a proper Exchange client for OS X. Until then, every time I have to launch Entourage it makes my day suck a little bit more than it would have otherwise.

Where's the "Art of iWork" template gallery?

Cool +1,000,000,000 to the first person who uses iWork and exports an office-compatible document to upload there!

I know this isn't the MacBU's fault. (Props to them and all)
But you know what would be nice? If MS would deliver the license code to Office that we paid for, oh, 27 days ago. That's right, I've got 3 days left on the trial version. Every time I save, Word helpfully reminds me that I should buy Office. Which I did 27 days ago. Not to mention that every email from Entourage says "Sent from Entourage 2004 Test Drive"
It's hard to love MS when they pull shenanigans like this.

I did a usability test for the shop that made this site earlier this year. It is nice to see that they implemented some of the changes into the site that I complained about.
