Roxio releases Popcorn 3, adds TiVoToGo support
Roxio has released version 3 of their DVD and video conversion utility Popcorn. The biggest new feature is probably the "exclusive TiVoToGo support for the Mac" that lets you burn TiVo recorded shows to disc or convert them for playback on other devices. However, other improvements include the ability to create compilation DVDs and custom DVD menus as well as improved Apple TV and iPhone/iPod support. Popcorn is $49 and is available now.For my own money, I think the the only compelling feature of Popcorn is the TivoToGo support. Unless that's a big deal for you, I think you'd probably do better with VisualHub ($23.32) plus Handbrake (free), as the ffmpeg based conversion of the former is considerably faster than the QuickTime based conversion that Popcorn appears to use.

Well, the most important feature for peopler on lowly iBooks like myself is that I can now move the Turbo.264 from being a doorstop bakc into business! Popcorn 3 has got Turbo.264 hardware support and I *really* hope that if Roxio know what's good for them they've included some tweakability when it comes to output format, somthing that's shamefully lacking from Elgatos own software. Even sadder, of course, would be if these limitations are actually in the Turbo.264 hardware itself...

I know Popcorn is cheaper, but Toast has had TTG support for ages, so it's not exactly new functionality for the Mac.
And yes, it is Series 2 only for now. The TTG functionality will be coming for Tivo HD (so they say) but for now transfers are disabled on the Tivo web site.
No upgrade price? Lame.

Regardless, it is probably always a good idea to use MacTheRipper to rip a commercial DVD (that you own, of course) before using any software to convert a VIDEO TS folder.
Anyway, I imagine the TivoToGo is still Series2 only, right? It is strange that no one is being specific about that, but I guess it would be a bigger deal release if it did Series3 too.
You can always get tivodecode manager: http://tdm.sourceforge.net/ which gets the shows off your tivo and then decodes them so there's no DRM on them.
