After months of waiting Yahoo! Messenger for Mac 3.0 Beta 2 is now available for download. New in this version of the beta are:
- Tabbed conversations, as pictured above
- Access to Yahoo! Chat rooms
- More emoticons (to combat those times when there isn't an emoticon available to express how you're feeling)
- Better Webcam and file transfer performance
- Message archiving

How about Apple fixing up iChat to take care all of this.... AIM, Yahoo, MSN, ICQ, etc.

Looks okay. I'm sticking with Adium since my contacts are all on AIM and ICQ, but this is a definite improvement over the old look.

Step in the right direction, i perfer the mac client to windows, but there are a few things still missing from mac client. when i chat with pc yahoo friends, i have to switch to windows cause things dont work right on the mac client.
Voice chat? Multi user video chat like iChat? Photo share, like pc client?

* Make your webcam view detachable from the contact list window
* Have two size settings for the display image, medium and large as in the Windows version.

Voice chat would be great considering Skype can offer full video conferencing.
Return the ability resize video
Offer SMS as in the Windows version.

What was the email address to send the suggestions?
And I strongly agree with Chatter List.

so far so good, but i have not been using it long. The problems i had with Yahoo Beta 1 after I installed Safari 3 Beta seem to be gone.

If it's better than the MSN client, I'll gladly use it instead.
In other news, copying the application over to the hard drive revealed that it was copying a "Sparkle" file or folder. Does this mean that it does auto-update?

If anyone can show me another Mac client that works with Yahoo IM webcamming, I'd use it. Until then, this is the only game in town. Now, if they'd just add Voice, they'd have something decent. And if their development time could be less glacial...
(Although they've been Universal for close to a year now, with the previous pretty solid Beta, which puts them ahead of Microsoft Office!)

I was excited to see the new beta, but there's not much more in it. I had really hoped for voice chat. Skype can be rather crap now and again...so I was hoping for an alternative. I use iChat the most to video chat, but a good alternative would always go down well! Come on Yahoo! Bit more Mac love please!

@Paul
Yahoo Messenger Beta 2 does do SMS messaging, just hit Cmd-N and type in the phone number you want to SMS.
@Alan
Yes, we do have auto-updating built in now... for things and such.
@Reovox
There are lots of changesm fixes, and additions, just the headline features were listed and the rest you'll find as you use the product.

I almost forgot, if you have the mobile numbers set for your contacts in your yahoo address book, it will include them in the search when you're completing the number or name in the new Cmd-N window.

It was about time, let's hope that we won't have to wait another ice age to get a beta 3.
I can't seem to find how to detach the webcam, though! Any hints?

Damn, still no voice chat?
Is there any theme changer? I dislike the big speech bubble, too much taking so much space. The tabs are nice touch tho..

Where is the voice and why are mac users treated like 2nd class citizens?
Still a long way to go.
