RouteBuddy 1.4 adds support for new devices and new data formats
Though a bit pricey, RouteBuddy is most likely the best Mac GPS mapping solutions. The newest 1.4 update adds support for a new range of Garmin nüvi and z?mo models as well as Tom Tom units. In addition, the new version allows importing and exporting data from Google Earth and Garmin's CSV format, which means you can manage Point of Interest (POI) data sets with RouteBuddy. The update is a free for registered users; for everyone else it's $99.50 (plus additional fees for maps) and a demo is available.

If you find RouteBuddy too costly, try the freeware alternative TrailRunner. It's more aimed at people doing long distance sports but manages GPS information as well: http://www.trailrunnerx.com

Hi Mat,
I note you say RouteBuddy is "a bit pricey" and would be interested to know in comparison to what?
Here are the other applications in the same field as us:
Route66 2004 (Mac) Officially not sold by developer but still on Amazon to catch any last sale: $40.00 http://tinyurl.com/2pf66o
Now compare its full feature list/maps with that of RouteBuddy.
-----------------------------
Microsoft Streets and Trips: $37.99 http://tinyurl.com/3bltom
DeLorme StreetAtlas: $36.99 http://tinyurl.com/3yt3td
Now you'll need to factor in purchase of VMWare or Parallels software for the last two and a copy of Windows, so that will add to the price somewhat..
Add in time factor to deal with Windows issues,
now add some more. ;-)
Now compare maps, feature-for-feature and buck-for-buck value..
-----------------------------
RouteBuddy is modern Mac specific software and alone offers high-definition maps. For any of the three aforementioned products to engineer up to the level of RouteBuddy you wouldn't be seeing the new versions at anywhere near their current low prices. These historical products have stagnated to such a great extent and therefore cannot shift up to a higher price level, whereas RouteBuddy is embracing the modern world of mapping technology and driving forward to give a 'broad' range of users the ability to use maps and meta data in anyway they want to, ergo RouteBuddy is a different product.
There's a recent example put together by an Apple ADE 'aburt' on our forum that shows his ideas .
Try doing that with the other app's above.
RouteBuddy is a multi-tasking application, it's not just for traditional car users, it's for everyone that wants to work with a map.
Anyone, any interest, any map, anywhere, and all in one application. RouteBuddy
Best,
Neil
