TUAW Tip: easy TUAW login bookmarklet
A lot of folks write in complaining about the login system for commenting here on TUAW. While we completely sympathize (all the TUAW contributors have to login the same way to leave comments) in this day and age of comment spam it's an unfortunate necessity. That said, computers are supposed to make things easier, right? Well in a comment to a recent post Kalessin pointed us to a super handy bookmarklet from Alex Coles that will automatically fill in your TUAW credentials for posting comments. Of course you'll have to edit the bookmarklet with your own email and password, but I've tested it and it works great in Safari and Camino. So if your browser just won't save your personal info for whatever reason, just stick this bookmarklet in your bookmarks bar, edit the credentials, and your TUAW login is always only a click away. Obviously, the same idea can be extended to other sites, as well. Thanks Alex for this great timesaver!

This is a solution for a problem that shouldn't exist in the first place. My main issue is with the fact that there is no interface provided for us to change our passwords to something we can remember instead of a randomly generated hexadecimal string. What sort of content system doesn't let users change their passwords?
Also, your login fields are set up in such a way that Safari does not recognize them as username and password, meaning that it will not offer to remember them and add them to the Keychain. Not only am I stuck with the password originally given to me, I have to cut and paste it from past e-mails rather than having it autofilled.
While the bookmarklet solution works, it's silly that we should have to do something like that ... and I'm not going to add a bookmarklet to every web-enabled device I own just to comment on your site.

And what modern feedback/commenting system doesn't allow visitors to use at least a few simple text formatting tags? If yes, where is a FAQ section about it?
I've dug around a couple times and never found any reference to this anywhere in the WebLogs Inc Network.
I knowe that most scripts will allow the admins to select which tags can be used and which can't. Fine...disallow any coding which might be an avenue for disruption, but to not allow bolding, italicising, strikethough, and font attributes? WTF, Over?
You want I should start cooking my bronto burger by first rubbing a couple sticks together, too?

3: I changed my password by visiting my Blogsmith profile, from Joystiq. I believe, if you click your name underneath your comments here, that you can login and do the same.

@9 How do you log into Joystiq? I found Blogsmiths profiles: http://www.blogsmith.com/profile/106970/, but then how the hell do I find out what my profile id # is, and once I find it will I then have an option to change my password? Surely someone has to know.

Thanks for the tip Macroy! I clicked on my name and typed in my assigned tuaw password and was able to change it from there. Right on.

This bookmarklet rocks! And it rocks for all the Weblogs, Inc blogs, just as well!

Tomahawk click on your name in this comment section. Type in the password you were assigned and you can go from there. Don't bother with Joystiq, Macroy was right when he said you can do it from TUAW.

Since TUAW was updated to link all commenters to their BlogSmith profiles, I've been able to finally change my password.
Given that I know what my password is, I don't need Safari to remember it anymore.
Mind you, I can think of a few things that could've been done more nicely: a link to your profile page when you post a comment would be handy (I had to go hunting for an old comment I'd posted), and would mean names of commenters could actually link to the site specified in the profile again (as it should be).

Beacause I'm a geek, but still an idiot, I could not figure out how to get the b'm'let to work, so I will do as I have always done. I have a sticky in dashboard that holds the tuaw password and i just copy and paste.

works!!
@18/JAmes bookmark any page, go to edit that bookmark, rename it TUAW or something, and paste that javascript link provided as the address.
then edit the javascript link by replacing the "your email/password" with your personal info.

You can just drag the link from the page to the Bookmarks Bar, then right-click on it to edit in your details.
